Vermin the Cybernik is a supporting antagonist in the Sonic the Comic comic book series. He is Dr. Ivo Robotnik's spy who was given Cybernik armor and became a rival to the previous Cybernik, Shortfuse.
Biography[]
Sonic the Comic[]
Vermin started off as a normal Mobian rat who served as an informant for Dr. Robotnik. In reward for his service, he was transformed into a Cybernik, a powerful cyborg version of a Badnik. The previous Cybernik, Shortfuse, retained his free will after transformation and joined the Freedom Fighters, so Vermin attempted to take him out. He ambushed the Freedom Fighters in the Gum Tree Zone and paralyzed Shortfuse with a virus he injected into his armor. Still, he was defeated and forced to flee when Amy Rose managed to use the Zone's corrosive acid against him.
Vermin continued to serve Robotnik. After the Black Asteroid triggered a planet-wide EMP, his armor lost power, and his escape from the heroes was short-lived as Tails found him and put him in prison. Vermin eventually escaped thanks to inadvertent assistance from a wannabe villain Party Pooper, and went on a rampage in Metropolis Zone, which Shortfuse stopped by downloading the program that allowed him to leave his Cybernik armor into Vermin's, and destroyed it from the inside once the villain was out of it.
Sonic the Comic Online![]
Vermin was locked up in the same asylum as the insane Robotnik. He eventually escaped by unknown means and teamed up with his former master, who was leaking Chaos Energy after his latest fight against Sonic. Together, they plotted to capture Sonic to use his Chaos Energy to sustain Robotnik, but failed, and Robotnik turned into Kintobor once again. After that, Vermin made several attempts to capture Kintobor, but they all failed.
