Major Vernon is a character turned supporting antagonist in the Call of Duty graphic novel, Modern Warfare 2: Ghost, which serves as a prequel to the 2009 video game, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, for the titular character.
He was a U.S. Special Forces major who was brainwashed by the drug cartel leader Manuel Roba, who had him return to the states to bring him more military soldiers to brainwash. The major succeeds in his goal of bringing a new team to be brainwashed, but Vernon would be killed after two of three were successfully turned.

Vernon joined the United States Special Forces at an unknown time and managed to reach the rank of major before the events of the comics. When the United States wanted to eliminate Manuel Roba, the leader of the Zaragoza drug cartel, Vernon was part of the second team after the first failed. The second team would fail to kill Roba, and Vernon returned and was part of the third team, who was killed except for him. Roba then had Vernon go through brainwashing at a facility in Coahuila, Mexico, and had him go back to the states so he could Roba more military soldiers to brainwash.
Modern Warfare 2: Ghost[]
Vernon was put under the command of another strike team to eliminate Roba, which consisted of Simon Riley, Kevin Sparks, Marcus Washington, Cumberland, and Sykes. Before landing in the area, Vernon sabotaged Sykes's parachutes since he was the new replacement for the team. The act was witnessed by Cumberland, who called a Delta Force operator to inform them that the major had betrayed them. Seeing that he could be compromised by Cumberland, Vernon took him hostage when the team went to infiltrate Roba's mansion. The major then had his "cojones" cut off by the guards and continued reporting back to Roba on his operations. He later killed Cumberland when Riley arrived and attempted to help him escape from the area, who was shocked at Vernon's betrayal.
Vernon then revealed what Cumberland saw him do and ordered the guards to cuff Riley before the latter managed to escape from the area. Despite this, Simon was shot, and Vernon had him taken to Roba to be captured and be sent to the Coahuila facility to be brainwashed and tortured. Vernon oversaw Riley, Sparks and Washington be tortured and psychologically abused, and believed that Simon will survive the experience and be a perfect candidate. During the course of the torture, Vernon was brutality beaten by Riley who was suffering from a psychological breakdown. The major was later killed after two of three were brainwashed, and his corpse was placed into a coffin for several days where his body was decomposing. Riley was placed in the coffin with Vernon but managed to escape and get his revenge on Roba for brainwashing Vernon, Sparks, and Washington.
