Vetto is a major antagonist of Black Clover, he is one of the three elves that composed the squad of the Third Eye, alongside Rhya and Fana. He was a major antagonist in the first saga and a minor supporting character in the second saga.
Initially wanting peace between elves and humans, Vetto decided to exterminate Clover Kingdom after their betrayal during Licht and Tetia's wedding.
He is voiced by Masaya Takatsuka in the Japanese version, and by David Wald and Orion Pitts (as his younger self) in the English version.
Personality[]
Vetto used to be a kind-hearted and peaceful elf, and wanting peace between elves and humans, for which he supported Licht's as well as Lumiere Silvamillion Clover (the future First Wizard King)'s friendship. He tended to love nature as well as heal injured birds.
This all changed when Vetto witnessed the Massacre of the Elves by Clover Kingdom (actually manipulated by Zagred) during Licht and Lumiere's sister Tetia's wedding, thus swearing vengeance on the Kingdom as well as the Wizard Kings. This also awakened his sadistic personality after falling into despair, promising the humans the same before killing them.
Despite this change, Vetto still remained loyal to the Elves (as well as Patolli) as he wholeheartedly supported the plans of the Eye of the Midnight Sun. Vetto also appreciated strength from where it came from, supporting Patolli also due to his abilities, and acknowledging Yami Sukehiro and Mereoleona Vermillion's strength.
Eventually it's revealed that Vetto's sadistic personality and his penchance of despair is actually influenced from the magic Patolli used to resurrect him, which is Zagred's dark spell. After his defeat, Vetto renounced his sadistic personality and reverted back to his old self.
Biography[]
Background[]
400 years ago, Vetto is introduced healing a bird from being tortured by humans. Despite the cruelty, Vetto agreed with Licht when he said they can be friends with humans. Many years later, Vetto is seen attending Licht and Tetia's wedding, which was ambushed by the Clover Kingdom's mages, which killed most of the elves, including Vetto.
Several centuries later, Patolli (wearing Licht's face) resurrected Vetto in a human body and grants him the Third Eye of the Midnight Sun.
Some time later, Vetto, along with other members of the Eye of the Midnight Sun, supervised the attack on the Royal Capital and the assassination attempt on Fuegeleon Vermillion, all in order to steal the magical stone on him.
Several days later, when Patolli is about to be defeated by the Black Bulls, Vetto along with the rest of the Third Eye to save him, while swearing vengeance on Clover Kingdom for harming him.
Underground Temple Arc[]
A month later, Vetto leads a team of mages to the Seabed Temple in order to steal the magic stone in it, crashing in the temple headfast. He then quickly defeat Gio and challenges Luck and Magna to a fight. After a protracted battle, Vetto quickly gains the upper hand and defeats Luck and Magna brutally, just in time for Asta, Kiato and Kahono to intervene, prompting Vetto to fight Asta as revenge for him injuring Licht in their previous meeting.
Noelle joins in the fight as well, as Vetto, frustrated by the humans' resilience against him, decides to crush their hope. To do so, he chopped off Kiato's leg and damaged Kahono's throat, to Noelle's horror. Vetto senses the immense mana being generated by Noelle and confirms she's from royalty, further enraging Vetto due to her being descended from the Wizard King who supposedly killed their people.
Noelle's Sea Dragon attack destroys his right arm, but he manages to regenerate it by his sheer force of mana, as he tries to kill Noelle, only to be foiled by Asta's arrival. Asta reminds Vetto that despite their heavy injuries, none of the opponents Vetto fought showed any despair to which Vetto notes he will soon correct. He then attacks the unconscious fighters who are saved by the timely arrival of Finral and Vanessa. Vetto scoffs at the growing numbers and gloats that he will show them despair all the same.
After resisting their attacks, Vetto powered up to a demonic form so that he could overwhelm them quickly, while also devising a plan to retrieve Licht's swords imbued with anti-magic. After successfully luring Asta to impale him, Vetto pinned Asta down as he crushed his arms and begun to beat him down and, which was prevented by the Black Bulls' teamwork. He slowly lost his magic power and endurance to the anti-magic sword as the Black Bulls began to bear him down. After Asta used the last of his strength to beat the elf, Vetto reminisces about his deaths at the hands of the Clover Kingdom as he falls into despair of being unable to avenge his fallen brethren.
In a last effort, Vetto released his mana reserves, deciding to destroy the temple and kill all the mages including himself, as he is ultimately killed by the timely intervention of Yami Sukehiro by slicing him apart. Despite everything he did to them, Asta is saddened at his death and notes that he was the one despairing the most, as Yami respectfully covered him and later sent his body to the Wizard King for autopsy.
Elf Reincarnation Arc[]
After a few months, Rhya revived both Vetto and Fana in artificial bodies.
