Looks like it's time for me to go POSTAL!
~ Ves'zan making his introduction to his boss fight.

Vez'nan is the main antagonist of the Kingdom Rush franchise. The arch-enemy of King Denas, he is responsible for most of the events in the series after he was denied the right to rule.

Personality[]

Vez'nan seems to be a typical calculating, treacherous, ans power-hungry evil sorcerer and (later) Dark Lord as he willingly established a deal with demonic forces — something his mentor Nivus won't likely approve — before being corrupted by tainted Tear of Elynie. However, Vengeance revealed some insights about his character: Vez'nan displays some care about his minions' well-being as he allows his troops to actually stop, rest, and get a drink from the Dwarves' Brewery once they conquer it, finding Dwarves' assets to be too useful for his forces to be destroyed, and deliberately hired pirates and scavengers to distract Hammerhold knowing that King Denas will enlist his aid during their vendetta and that both Hammerhold and Linirea's combined might would be potentially too much for his army to handle. He also regretted his pact with Ghost Kings as the latter proved to be too treacherous to his liking; they demanded half of souls of citizens of newly conquered Linirea — a part of the bargain they kept Vez'nan in the dark. Lastly, the reason he chose to become the Dark Lord he is now was because of a fallout with Denas over an extradimensional terror looming over their universe through a portal beneath the latter's castle and that he knows better precautions Denas made won't be enough.

Biography[]

Kingdom Rush: Origins[]

He is selectable as a paid hero who fights alongside the elves. After the defeat of the Spider Goddess (combined form of Queen Malicia and Mactans), Denas, then the prince of Lineria, declares that the corrupted Tear of Elynie must be destroyed and Vez'nan offers to do it himself. Before he can do this, the Tear's influence gets to him and causes his descent into evil and future exile from Lineria. Even after this, Vez'nan is still selectable in Origins' level packs. When he’s not selected, he can be seen with the corrupted Tear at the Shrine of Elynie during the Heroic and Iron Challenges alongside some demon minions.

Kingdom Rush[]

In the first Kingdom Rush game, Vez'nan is the final boss. Vez'nan, like all enemies, first appears from the entrance of the map and tries to cross the entire map to get to the exit, with the player needing to stop him before then. In his base form, Vez'nan can use a spell to disable the player's towers, summon demons, and drain the souls of soldiers to kill them instantly. After taking enough damage, Vez'nan would shapeshift into a large demonic form, which moves at a faster pace and breathes fire. After defeating him a second time, he dies. He later appears in Pandemonium, his soul in a cage next to Moloch's throne. He escapes from his prison eventually with help from Moloch's little brother, Oloch.

Kingdom Rush: Frontiers[]

In Frontiers, Vez'nan has no appearance whatsoever. However, he has much posthumous influence as, with his death, many evils rose. Most prominently out of all of them, Lord Malagar, the game's main antagonist and one of Vez'nan's most devout followers, had physically taken his staff (which strangely paled in comparison to Umbra's dark power) to summon Umbra, the game's main antagonist, in an attempt to aid him in ruling the world.

Kingdom Rush: Vengeance[]

In Vengeance, as a result of a pact made between Vez'nan and Oloch, the former escapes into the mortal world ready to try conquering Lineria again. This time, he is a protagonist villain since the player is, despite being a general as usual, on his side this time. After many long battles, Vez'nan succeeds in his campaign at last, only to enter the basement of Denas's castle to supposedly fight an even greater evil, which seems to be the real motivation behind Vez'nan's actions. In the level packs, he sends the general to deal with new threats to his newly acquired power such as the Anurians, Winter Queen, Ancient ghosts, Dragon King, Prehistoric dwarves, Hammerhold, before eventually turning on the pirates.

Legends of Kingdom Rush[]

It is revealed that the "greater threat" is known as The Overseer, who created the Unblinded Cult in its own bid to conquer the known world. The Overseer was the true reason Vez'nan and King Denas's fallout in the past because of questioning the latter's approach against it which indeed left much to be desired, with exposure to evil magic within tainted Tear of Elynie worsened the sorcerer's fall from grace. In the end, Vez'nan rides Beresad the black dragon to the elf lands in the south and meets with his former apprentice and prisoner Magnus Spellbane. The latter believes there is another way but Vez'nan insists they no longer have a choice. They face the Overseer and Vez'nan tells Magnus to immediately summon all the war generals.

Kingdom Rush: Alliance[]

Shortly after the events of Legends, Vez'nan and his army travelled to Everradiant forest to propose a truce with the remnants of Linirean army led by Vesper, the captain of Denas' royal troops. Initially wary of Vez'nan, Vesper reluctantly accepted the proposal. With both Linirean and Vez'nan's dark army, the alliance battle the cult and its allies. After rescuing Denas and defeating the cult's leader Mydrias, the alliance finally battle The Overseer himself in which Denas manage to kill him with the Sword of Elynie. After The Overseer's death, Denas and Vez'nan seemingly parted on good terms while the alliance celebrated their victory.

However, in the post-credit scene, Vez'nan recovered the corrupted Tear from The Overseer's petrified corpse before evilly laughing, possibly scheming for another evil plan.
