The Vicarstown Dieselworks are the main antagonists of the Thomas & Friends franchise.
They are a large workshop complex located in Vicarstown that serves as the main headquarters for diesel engines. It is the diesel equivalent of Sodor Steamworks.
History[]
The Dieselworks is located in a quarry-like area, not far from Vicarstown. When it was first introduced, the Dieselworks was run down and shabby, with insufficient and damaged equipment. After a fire broke out in the main building, it was rebuilt. Diesel 10 is the head diesel and Diesel serves as current second-in-command.
The company's logo is a picture of a diesel engine, of similar appearance to Den's class. Both Den and Dart have this logo on their liveries.
The Dieselworks complex features a wide variety of equipment for the maintenance and repair of diesel locomotives. This includes a set of lifting jacks, a large vice and an on-site metal foundry. There is also a five-berth roundhouse to accommodate the diesels adjoined to the main building. Inside the main building is a special shed for Diesel 10, accessed via an elevating turntable.
The line to the Dieselworks goes through a tunnel, accessed by a junction along the Main Line to the west of Vicarstown.
Trivia[]
- A scrap model of Charlie's cab is seen inside.
- A scrapped Märklin Engine appears at the Dieselworks in Blue Mountain Mystery, which is a reference by Greg Tiernan.
- According to a magazine article, Dennis lives at the Dieselworks. However, he is never seen there in the series.
