Viktor Sergeyevich Bagrov (Russian: Ви́ктор Серге́евич Багро́в) is the anti-heroic protagonist of the cult films "Brother" and "Brother-2" by Alexey Balabanov, Danila's older brother Bagrova.
He was portrayed by Viktor Sukhorukov.
Biography[]
Family[]
Before moving to St. Petersburg in the 90s, he lived with his younger brother Danila and his mother. He served in the army. He was engaged in raising his brother instead of his father, who died in prison. Unlike Danila, Victor is an extrovert, sociable, often laughs, openly expresses emotions. However, he is too frivolous, and for the sake of money he is even ready to commit crimes.
Events of the first film[]
1997. Viktor Bagrov works as a killer, known by the nickname Tatar. He receives another order for the murder of a Chechen criminal authority who has seized the entire city market from the bandit Krugly. The Tatar agreed to fulfill the order, but demanded a rather large sum — twenty thousand dollars with a period of two weeks of preparation. At the same time, his brother Danila, who has just returned from the Chechen war, comes to Viktor on the advice of his mother. Krugli did not like the amount offered by the Tatar, especially the prepayment, and he ordered his people to keep an eye on the Chechen and the Tatar in the market. As it turned out later, surveillance was needed to control the murder, and then eliminate the killer, instead of paying him. Victor, sensing that the execution of such an order is dangerous for life: "I'm risking my head here...", complains just by the way to his brother who arrived that a former Chechen terrorist is extorting money from him as a businessman, besides he oppresses Russians in the market. Thus, Victor draws Danila into a criminal showdown and gives him the "order". For this work, Danila will receive ten times less, and even the gun that Victor offers Danila for work was not free. Victor met Danila's refusal of the pistol with caution. Victor does not allow Danila to live at home, but tries to track down where Danila lives - he writes down the phone numbers from which his brother calls. A few weeks after the murder of the Chechen, having recovered from his injury, Danila gets in touch with his Brother and receives money from him, with which he buys a gift for his new girlfriend Sveta, and hangs out at the club, and the next morning Vitya calls Danila, and under the pretext of illness asks him to participate in another showdown instead of himself, already without payment, and the brother agrees to help again. A little later, Krugly takes Viktor hostage and, threatening violence, demands to extradite Danila and return the money paid for the murder of the Chechen and for the second showdown. Danila himself calls his brother at this moment and guesses about the ambush by his frightened voice. He buys a hunting rifle, makes a sawn-off shotgun out of it and, coming to his brother, deals with Krugly and his gang. Victor is afraid that his brother will deal with him for betrayal, but Danila calms him down, repeating: "You're my brother!..". Danila takes bundles of dollars from the apartment, and advises Vita to return home to her mother and get a job in the police.
Events of the second film[]
Two years have passed since the last events. Victor returned to his hometown and became a policeman, and also began to drink a lot and speak disparagingly about his brother. The mother feels all this and constantly quarrels with Victor. After seeing a program on TV with Danila's participation, the mother thinks that he has achieved something in life, and suggests that Viktor go to Moscow to meet his brother. At the meeting, Danila offers to go to America together to help a good man in a difficult situation: the brother of Konstantin Gromov, Danila's comrade in Chechnya, who recently became a victim of a ridiculous murder. Victor agrees to such an offer without question. Victor helps to find out the necessary information from the culprit of the murder - Valentin Belkin, for whom Kostya worked. For a visit to Belkin, Viktor and Danila's friend Ilya steal a car, arrive on it for a holiday, which Belkin also visits, and there Danila, threatening Belkin with a machine gun, talks to him. Then they have to change their location several times and get away from the chase, because Belkin's bandits go to the places of Danila's stay known to them. Enlisting the help of Ilya's friends, Danila and his brother get fake passports and visas and fly to the USA by different planes to different cities (Victor to Chicago, Danila to New York). Belkin's bandits, who did not know about Victor, miss both. Having found out who Viktor is, Belkin makes the assumption that Bagrov sent a killer instead of himself, and sends a photo of the elder Bagrov to Mannis. The Ukrainian mafia starts looking for Viktor and forgets about Danila. Victor does not help Danila much in America. He has fun in Chicago, then after meeting with his brother, he reveals the surveillance of himself by the Ukrainian mafia and arranges a shooting in a Ukrainian restaurant, for which the Chicago police raid him. Despite the fact that he will be put on trial on charges of murder and assault on a policeman, Victor shouts that he remains to live in America. The further fate of Viktor Bagrov is unknown.
