Victoria Skillane is the main protagonist of the Black Mirror episode "White Bear". She was a woman who was implicated by way of her inaction in the kidnapping and murder of a young girl by the name of Jemima Sykes, recording the child’s suffering on her phone while her psychotic boyfriend tortured and murdered her.

For her role in the girl’s death Victoria was sentenced to spend an indefinite period of time in an outdoor torture facility disguised as a suburban neighborhood, where her punishment was uniquely tailored to her crime. Victoria's penance entailed being forced to partake in a horrifying apocalyptic scenario every single day with dozens of “watchers” pursuing her relentlessly and filming her every move, forcing her to relive the events of Jemima's death on a daily basis as a twisted take on poetic justice.

She was portrayed by Lenora Crichlow.

Personality[]

Victoria’s true personality is left an enigma through the story, due to her amnesia after every torture. She is shown to be extremely nervous, scared, weak willed and quiet, constantly worrying and being unsure of what is happening. She shows to become extremely angered, going so far as to attack the participants who are watching with their phones. Before this, it is implied that Victoria was manipulative and cold hearted, showing no qualms murdering Jemima Sykes with her boyfriend. She claims that she was manipulated by Iain to commit the murder. It is unknown how true it is, however, the judge claimed she was a particularly vile human being. It is shown that Victoria breaks down in tears once seeing what she has done, however, everyone believes it to be crocodile tears. Whether or not this is true or not is left up to interpretation.

Biography[]

Before the episode, Victoria, along with with her fiance Iain Rannoch, kidnapped seven-year old Jemima Sykes from her home, and filmed Ian torturing and murdering her. The two were arrested, and Iain killed himself in prison, which lead to the courts focusing on Victoria.

Victoria attempts to plea her case, saying she was manipulated by Iain, however, it fell on death ears and she was found guilty, and due to her actions, was made to relive everything that happened, and she was placed into The White Bear Justice Facility, run by Baxter. She had her memory wiped and is forced to go through each reinterpretation, being chased by maniacs all while being recorded by groups of people, who are visitors recording, and every day afterwards, she gets her mind wipe, restarting the day.
