The Vietnam People's Army (Quân Đội Nhân Dân Việt Nam) and its southern guerilla branch: the Vietcong, are supporting antagonists in the 2010 video game Call of Duty: Black Ops and the 2012 video game Call of Duty: Black Ops: Declassified. Referred to as the North Vietnamese Army and NVA in the game, they are an enemy faction fighting against the United States in the Vietnam War.

History[]

Campaign[]

The North Vietnamese Army first appear in the level "S.O.G.", where they attack the United States Marine Corps and the Studies and Observations Group in trying to take Khe Sanh. S.O.G. operatives Alex Mason, Frank Woods, and C.I.A. agent Jason Hudson manage to hold back the NVA, clearing the trenches and destroying enemy tanks.

The NVA next appear in "The Defector", where they battle the 1st Cavalry Division in Huế, Thừa Thiên as the S.O.G. go the city to find the defector. An NVA soldier is heard on a loudspeaker telling the American soldiers that they will die in Vietnam instead of their homeland and orders all Vietnamese soldiers to kill civilians for helping America. Mason and his team fail to save the defector, as he was killed during the attack. After clearing the area, Mason and his team hold their ground until Alex calls in a bombing run and escape.

In "Crash Site", the NVA only appear in a patrol boat, where Mason and his team have to destroy to get through. Despite destroying the boat, a young marine is killed during the fight, and Woods mourns him. After clearing the area, Mason and his team fight off Viet Cong and Spetsnaz, but are later captured by Nikita Dragovich and Lev Kravchenko when checking the crashed Soviet helicopter. In "Payback", Mason and Woods board a Mi-24A Hind, and fight NVA soldiers at their base, destroying them along the way.

Multiplayer[]

The NVA are a playable multiplayer faction in the game, and appear in the maps Jungle, Hanoi and Cracked. The NVA are seen wearing bandannas around their necks and are an enemy to the Studies and Observations Group.

Trivia[]

The VC Bookie's voice actor, Kevin Trang, is the multiplayer announcer for the NVA.
In the campaign, NVA soldiers wear light tan uniforms, but in multiplayer, they wear Viet Cong uniforms.
