Violet is the main antagonist of the 1997 erotic thriller Poison Ivy: The New Seduction. Starting in 1985, Violet was the eight-year-old daughter of Rebecca who worked as the housekeeper for the Greer family. Rebecca was caught in bed with the pool boy, and was evicted from the household. Eleven years later, Violet returns to the Greer home and is reunited with her childhood friend Joy Greer.
She was portrayed by Jaime Pressly, who also portrayed Joy Turner in My Name is Earl, China from Torque, Mika from Mortal Kombat: Conquest, and Priscilla from Not Another Teen Movie.
Biography[]
After being taken in by the Greer family, Violet slowly begins to manipulate her way into the family's trust using her body to slowly take over and becoming especially possessive of former best friend's time and attention.
Jealous of all the new people who had entered Joy's life since their childhood, Violet proceeds to destroy all of Joy's other relationships in the hopes of isolating her and ensuring that she remains Joy's only friend. First she drugs Joy's tennis partner Jaime and manipulates her into believing that they had sex together by handcuffing her and then stripping them both down to their bra and panties.
Later, she again seduces Michael into having sex with her, and then reignites his former addiction after giving him cocaine.
Her next target is Joy's father Ivan Greer who Violet seduces by sabotaging his date when she swims topless in his pool and dresses in his late wife's clothes. He is unable to resist her beauty and she successfully seduces him into having sex later that night.
Mrs. B, the family housekeeper, becomes suspicious of the recent events and rightfully fearing that Violet is up to no good, tries to put an end to her schemes.
Around the same time, Michael confronts Violet while she is alone, revealing that he knows she doesn't work for Denny's like she'd previously told the Greer family and that she is actually a high priced prostitute.
Fearing that he was going to try to blackmail her or reveal her deception to the Greer family, Violet knocks Michael out later that night and ties him to a bed and duct tape gags him. She then proceeds to inject him with a lethal dose of cocaine, killing him instantly.
After Joy returns from her tennis match and learns of Michael's death, she then walks in on her father and Violet in a session of sadomasochism. Shocked by this discovery, Joy runs out and Ivan tells Violet that she must leave. Unwilling to give up her plans, Violet hides Ivan's heart medicine and then lures him into the garage where she leaves him trapped to die of fatal poisoning with carbon monoxide by leaving a car engine running.
Joy eventually returns home to discover that Mrs. B has also been murdered. Violet realizing that the only way they'd ever truly be able to be together forever is in death, forces Joy to dress up and play tea parties like they did as children, where they will both commit suicide by drinking poison. Joy refuses and throws the poison in Violet's face. The two wrestle around the room with Violet attempting to stab Joy with a pair of scissors, but Joy is able to knock her back before she strikes. Joy flees the room to the stairway, where she leans over the banister and calls for help. Violet is spun around by Joy and begins to lose her balance at the top of the stairs. Joy grabs the end of Violet's necklace to try and save her from falling. Still holding onto the necklace, Joy begs with Violet to grab her hand. Instead Violet leans her head back breaking the necklace and causing her to fall backwards to her death down the stairs.
Personality[]
Throughout the film, Violet is shown to be an incredibly unstable, yet surprisingly cunning, psychopath doing everything she possibly can to systematically destroy the lives of the Greer family with whom she's been holding a grudge against for the past eleven years ever since they separated her from her best friend Joy Greer.
Her obsession with the Greer family and Joy Greer in particular, gradually leads her to become increasingly hostile towards them to the point where she commits several murders and ultimately attempts to force Joy into committing murder-suicide with her in the mistaken belief that they both wanted to be together in death.
Violet also shows signs of being a possible nymphomaniac, being constantly obsessed with sex and using her body as a way of accomplishing her goals. In one scene, she is shown to perform oral sex on Joy's boyfriend whilst wearing a dominatrix costume. In another scene, she spikes Jaime, Joy's tennis partner, and handcuffs her to a bed and undresses them both manipulating Jaime into believing that they'd slept together.
In addition to using her body to manipulate her targets, Violet was also incredibly calculating and methodical being able to successfully cover up all of her murders as just tragic accidents. Its very likely that if Joy hadn't stumbled across the truth by accident, Violet's plan to keep Joy to herself probably would've succeeded.
