Virginia "Ginger" Copeland is a supporting antagonist in seasons six and seven of Orange is the New Black.
She is a correctional officer at Litchfield Penitentiary's maximum security division, who participates in "Fantasy Inmate", a points-based game organised by the COs.
She is portrayed by Shawna Hamic.
Physical appearance[]
Ginger is an overweight, Caucasian CO with ginger hair, hence her nickname. She is mostly seen wearing CO uniform with her hair up, but wears it down out of work. She often carries notebooks and pens around with her.
Personality[]
Ginger has an ironic belief in self-improvement. She cannot abide profanity, and often replaces her swearwords with phrases such as "fudge", or "poop". She shows elements of dishonesty and competitivity when playing Fantasy Inmate, and often manipulates the prisoners to complete actions in order to win the most points. When she does win, she gloats.

Background[]
Little is known about Ginger's background, other than that she became employed as a CO at Litchfield's maximum security prison. She developed a friendship with CO Alvarez and became fond of playing Fantasy Inmate.
Orange is the New Black[]
After a riot is held at the minimum security prison, many are transferred to maximum (MAX). This includes Suzanne Warren, who is deprived of her medication and begins to hallucinate. As part of a hallucination, she sees herself as Dorothy Gale from the Wizard of Oz, and imagines Ginger and another CO as Ozian guards.
Ginger forcibly takes Warren to questioning for her involvement in the riot. When doing so, she notices that Frieda Berlin has attempted suicide. Ginger is indifferent to this, and calls it in. She is later seen monitoring the rest of the minimum security inmates, and takes them to their allocated phone calls. She inappropriately listens in to each inmate, and makes notes on them to aid her decision-making for the new round of Fantasy Inmate which is due to begin.
When Alex Vause arrives at the prison from the hospital, she breaks up Piper and Alex's embrace and kiss. When Alvarez and the COs pick their inmates for Fantasy Inmate and Copeland ends up with Piper and the Denning Sisters. When Piper is tripped by Madison Murphy and loses half her front tooth, Copeland takes it and uses it to manipulate her into swearing at Maria Ruiz so that she can receive points.
When Copeland and Alvarez witness Murphy's gang defecate on their enemies clothes, they choose not to intervene as retaliation could result in more points for them. Copeland realises that tensions are rising between the Denning sisters whom have not met for years. She is overpopulates Administrative Segregation (AdSeg) so that she can keep the pair together in a cell to start a fight and win points.
However, the Denning sisters instead make a truce to Copeland's dismay. When Alvarez tells Copeland to let her out, threatening to ban her for breaking the rules, she reluctantly does so. When a kickball game between blocks starts, the Denning sisters betray and kill one another. This results in Copeland gaining a huge amount of points and winning to Alvarez' annoyance.
