Dogs rule the world. And only dogs will be here.
~ The Intruder

The Visitors are the main antagonists in the indie horror visual novel game No, I'm not a Human. They are a species of mysterious, hostile doppelgangers that came from the ground after the sun reached a critical level of heat.

They are dangerous and unpredictable, representing a constant menace to anyone they encounter. Their origins and motives remain mysterious, deepening the eerie atmosphere of the game.

Biography[]

The Visitors are the main threat faced in No, I’m Not a Human. They appear mostly human but show subtle unsettling differences. Most Visitors are hostile, and if the player allows two or more Visitors inside the house, they will begin killing all humans present, ultimately targeting the protagonist.

Little is known about their full nature, but it is suggested that they were once human and originally buried underground. This is reflected in their dirty fingernails, likely from digging themselves out of the earth. Many Visitors are not even aware that they have become Visitors, after digging out of the ground, Visitors can shapeshift and attack humans when they least expect it. The dead bodies, after getting infected by a brain parasite that seems to be connected to the sun's heat, start crawling out of the ground and attack humans, shapeshifting and stalking.

Signs that someone is a Visitor include perfectly white teeth, dirty fingernails, bloodshot eyes, and blurry appearances in photos. The full game release promises more ways to identify Visitors.

There is one Visitor in particular that is so aggressive, terrifying and animalistic, that one of the humans that the Protagonist encounters (simply known as the "Blinded Man") turned to removing his own eyes, as he witnessed an entity only as "It" (or the "Body-Eater" in the game's files) devour a human. The sight was so horrifying that the man blinded himself, hoping to be rid of the memory. "It" is the most malicious, enigmatic and violent of all known Visitors, even surpassing the Intruder. This Visitor is completely unseen, with its very few appearances showing it as a silhouette.

Events of No, I'm not a Human[]

One night, the Protagonist is warned by his neighbor that the Sun is experiencing such powerful solar flares that it is impossible to be out during the day, as any living thing will burn up instantly. Because of this, the night is the only time that people can go outside. The neighbor also warns the Protagonist of the Visitors, not knowing where they came from or why they are even called that. Although the Protagonist is very anti-social, he is advised to let in any humans he can, but not let in any Visitors.

For the remainder of the game, the Protagonist must let in as many humans as possible, so that they are able to fend off the Visitors and shelter them from the Sun. It is the player's choice to let in or deny any guest that comes by. Since Visitors look just like humans, it is nearly impossible to tell them apart at first, so they must be tested for having specific traits. The Protagonist can choose to shoot someone after checking for something. However, normal humans can also have the same traits Visitors have, making it even more difficult to tell them apart. One of the biggest reasons to not be alone is the presence of the Pale Intruder, a unique shirtless Visitor that keeps coming back to the Protagonist's house to warn and taunt him of upcoming events. If the Protagonist is alone (or says he is), the Intruder breaks down the door and kills the Protagonist by strangling him. One night, Visitors kill the Protagonist's neighbor, causing his daughter is run to the Protagonist's house for safety.

Another threat is a government agency group named the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) that assembled to quarantine and control areas of the city, as well as test any individuals for being a Visitor. A FEMA agent will visit a few nights to take away the Protagonist's guests without ever returning them, leaving him vulnerable to the Intruder if left alone. However, this can be used to the player's benefit by assigning unwanted guests a FEMA slip, making the group take away whoever the slip was assigned to. As time goes on, FEMA becomes more antagonistic and deadly, killing anyone that disobeys them. A crazed Vigilante (who is the brother of the aforementioned neighbor) is also on the constant prowl for Visitors, killing anyone that shows even one or two Visitor traits, leading him to kill a massive amount of Visitors and innocent humans alike, going so far as purging entire towns. The Protagonist and Vigilante will get into a gunfight showdown if the latter mistakes the former for being a Visitor (such as failing a Visitor check).

Depending on how the Protagonist dealt with anyone who showed up to his house, the fate of him and his guests will lead into different endings. If the guests left over were humans, they will possibly outlast the Sun's cataclysmic activity. If the guests were Visitors, they will wait until they are barricaded in the house and slowly kill the Protagonist. The fate of the remaining Visitors in the world is left unknown during any of the game's endings.

Behavior[]

The range of personalities and behavior of Visitors is completely random between individuals. They range from acting like a standard human to having unexplainably strange traits. Although most Visitors will kill someone when they have the chance, not all of them are openly hostile. For reasons unknown, Visitors seem to kill the Protagonist last, targeting other humans staying at the Protagonist's house first. It is possible that the Protagonist locks himself in his room with his weapon, warding off Visitors temporarily. Visitors will only start killing humans until another of their kind enters the house, likely due to them utilizing their strength in numbers.

The true reason for a Visitor's strange behavior is unknown, but the two most prominent factors of their motives are the waves of the Sun's solar flares, as well as a brain parasite that has entered the Visitors' heads. This parasite is likely why some of them have insects nesting in their ears. Another recurring trait is how Visitors will explain that they are "following orders", but it is never explained if this from the waves of the Sun, actions directed by the brain parasite, a combination of the two or anything else entirely. Some Visitors know what they've become, and are in constant misery, such as the "Cold Guy", who has his body temperature stay at cold temperatures at all times no matter what, and is in constant misery over this.

When it is obvious a Visitor is in the Protagonist's house (such a human being killed, and one other person is left), they will often act is if nothing is wrong, leaving their killings completely unmentioned, maintaining their facade of being a normal human. Seeing as they target humans rather than one of their own (although it is possible for Visitors to kill each other in specific circumstances), there is a possibility that they see humans as the malevolent beings, and not themselves.

Abilities[]

The visitors are beings who seem to have a connection with the sun and its heat waves, which are killing humanity. They seem to follow the waves' commands. The visitors are extremely dangerous and have various abilities.

  1. Shapeshifting: They possess the ability to shapeshift, capable of manipulating the appearance of the corpses they control to deceive humans.
  2. Nigh-immortality: It's strongly implied that they can't die of old age; they can get killed but not by natural causes.
  3. Superhuman hearing: Visitors can hear humans whispering from behind the walls and feel high frequencies, even those of the sun.
  4. Superhuman endurance: They never seem to tire, and if not fatally wounded, they may be able to continue fighting despite their wounds.
  5. Strength The average visitor is stronger than a human, most of them possessing brute strength, but some more powerful and dangerous specimens can attain superhuman strength, such as the intruder who can easily sever a man's head from his body or break down doors with ease and kill humans with single blows.
  6. Speed/Reflexes: Every visitor has some degree of reflexes; they try to attack the player before he shoots, but others, like the Cat Lady can see bullets and dodge them for a while.
  7. Heat resistance: Despite the sun emitting temperatures so extreme that they can kill humans, visitors seem to have no problem with the sun, some of them even admitting to feeling cold and not feeling the heat.
  8. Deception/Cunning: They can deceive and demonstrate that they have decent or enough skills in manipulation, deception, and charm to fool the average human.
  9. Murder methodology: Many of them kill several humans, and every visitor has his scheme to kill humans or deceive them.

Trivia[]

  • A dream can occur in the game, where the Protagonist sees a distorted version of their own home. This grants the player an achievement, titled "Walk A Mile In Their Shoes". This may hint that this is how Visitors see the world, or that the Protagonist may be becoming one himself.
  • Visitors with extraordinary powers and traits are known as "Super Visitors", a term coined by the game's developers and used within the fanbase.
