Vitaly Egorovich Krechetov is the main antagonist of the Russian TV series Liquidation. Major of the Odessa militia, deputy military prosecutor of the Odessa military District, and at the same time a German spy.
He was portrayed by Mikhail Porechenkov.
Personality[]
Clairvoyant Igor Semenovich described Krechetov as a man without a face, because he is able to accept any model of behavior and win over almost anyone. This allowed him for a long time not to arouse absolutely any suspicions about himself and hide his true intentions, leading the law enforcement agencies of Odessa by the nose, thereby not giving himself away, being the same secret spy of German intelligence named Academician, who could not be found for a very long time. He got his nickname because he was the best student at his military academy, driven by sincere hatred for the Soviet regime that killed his grandfather, who was a White Guard and a supporter of the tsarist regime. Thus, despite the fact that he disliked the Germans himself, he was ready to unite with them only to take revenge by harming the Soviet regime, staging several terrorist attacks and organizing a large-scale operation to seize the main building of Odessa. In general, if you do not have an idea of his true nature, then he gives the impression of a conscientious, charismatic, friendly and very sociable officer. Anyway, in fact, he is a cold-blooded and strong-willed German special agent who can kill anyone who questions his plans. However, despite his cruelty and ruthlessness, he was sincerely in love with his girlfriend named Tonya and took care of her, behaving like a gentleman, although he showed her hidden frightening anger when she behaved too arrogantly and brazenly towards him. In the end, he killed her because he found out that she had guessed his duplicity and that he was a German spy, thereby jeopardizing the fulfillment of his mission, and although he later regretted what he had done, it is difficult to say whether he repents. In general, we can say that Vitaly Krechetov is an uncompromising and highly qualified military man, driven by hatred and some desire to go down in history as a man who managed to question the reliability of the Soviet Union as a state.
Biography[]
Before the events of the series[]
Krechetov's past life is not mentioned in the series, but the scriptwriter of the series Alexey Poyarkov published a book where he wrote his biography: Krechetov was born on February 21, 1910 in the city of Ostrov, in the Pskov region in a peasant family. During the Civil War, Krechetov's father fought for the Whites. Later, he dies at the hands of the Reds in the battle of Yelets. After that, Krechetov decides to take revenge on the Communists for the death of his father and the change of the country. He goes over to the side of the Germans, and became their most powerful spy. He also worked underground during World War II.
Events of the series[]
Odessa, 1946. There are armed robberies committed by a gang of saboteurs, among whom were Igor Chekan, Tolya Zhivchik and Shtekhel. Police Lieutenant Colonel David Gotsman finds out that this gang is led by a mysterious German intelligence officer named Academician, who was in Odessa during World War II. Gotsman's childhood friend Fima, having learned something about the Academician, was killed.
Later, police major Vitaly Krechetov arrives at the Gotsman's department and together he takes up the investigation of the Academician's case. Gotsman and Krechetov became quite close friends. Krechetov also falls in love with the singer Tonya and brings her to his home to live.
Further, Gotsman finds out that the Academician works in his police department. Almost all employees of the department, including the Gyrfalcons, fall under suspicion. The latter quickly diverts suspicion from himself, saying that during the Second World War he was on the Second Belorussian Front. The policeman Arsenin, who was on the Second Belorussian Front, began to suspect Krechetov and immediately goes missing.
Gotsman again began to suspect Krechetov, but he again diverts suspicion from himself, saying that in fact he was not on the Second Belorussian Front, but in the underground. Then Gotsman is arrested, and all the scouts leave the city.
The academician turns out to be police Major Vitaly Krechetov. He informs David Gotsman's girlfriend Nora that the latter has been arrested. Police officers come and arrest Nora in the presence of Krechetov. Krechetov then tells Stechel to order the bandit Platov (who is actually an undercover police officer) to kill Gotsman's adopted son Misha. Platov does not kill Misha, but takes him to a safe place. Krechetov's girlfriend Tonya, thinking that he is cheating on her, decides to follow him and sees his meeting with Chekan. Two days later, Tonya, having learned that Chekan is a dangerous bandit, realizes that Krechetov is a traitor to the motherland, and the latter accidentally kills her.
The capture of Odessa begins, but then it turns out that the scouts did not actually leave the city, but were there all the time. Gotsman's arrest was staged. The scouts begin to fight the saboteurs, and Gotsman tries to arrest Krechetov, but the latter knocks him out, ties him up and confesses to him that it was he (Krechetov) who killed Thomas, Arsenin and tried to kill Misha. Next, the Gotsman unties himself and throws Krechetov down the stairs, thereby injuring him. Krechetov is arrested.
Trivia[]
