Biography[]
Past[]
Vito Spatafore was born on February 22, 1959 in New Jersey and was of Italian descent. He also had a brother named Bryan. At some point in the 1980s, Vito became an associate of the DiMeo Crime Family, as well as marrying a woman named Marie. Vito also had two children with Marie, a son named Vito Jr. and a daughter named Francesca.
Season 3[]
In 2000, Vito's brother Bryan is hit in the head with a golf club by Sally "Mustang Sally" Intile in a fit of rage, which causes Bryan to fall into a coma. After hearing the news, Vito becomes reasonably upset which causes DiMeo Family boss, Tony Soprano to put a hit out on Sally, of which he has Bobby Baccalieri, Sr. do the job. While Baccalieri is successful, he ends up dying in a car crash later.
One year later, Vito is ordered to murder Jackie Aprile Jr., the son of the deceased former boss Jackie Aprile Sr. and who was currently in hiding. The reasoning behind Jackie Jr.'s murder was due to him trying to rob Eugene Pontecorvo's card game, in which Jackie Jr. murdered the card dealer, "Sunshine". After Jackie Jr. exits the apartment he was hiding in, Vito sneaks up behind him and shoots him in the back of the head, before leaving in a car.
Season 4[]
Two years later, in 2003, caporegime of the DiMeo Family, Ralph Cifaretto suddenly disappears (as he was murdered by Tony Soprano). Because of this, Vito is promoted to becoming a captain and a high-ranking member of the Aprile Crew.
Season 5[]
Around this time, Vito begins working as a contractor at a construction site, along with various other mobsters including, Little Paulie Germani, Eugene Pontecorvo, Patsy Parisi and Benny Fazio. Some time while this is happening, Tony's daughter, Meadow's boyfriend, Finn De Trolio also starts working there with the help of Tony. One day at work, Finn witnesses Vito giving a security guard a blowjob. Fearing the consequences of Finn telling this to someone, Vito passive aggressively threatens Finn by offering him to watch a baseball game together. Because of Vito's threatening tone, Finn decides to never mention the situation in fear of getting whacked.
Season 6[]
In 2006, Tony is shot in the stomach by his uncle, Junior (who forgot who Tony was because of his dementia) and falls into a coma. During this time, DiMeo Family consigliere, Silvio Dante takes on the role of acting boss. However, while this is occurring, Vito gives the implication that if Tony were to die, he would be the one to take on the role, with him mostly giving this idea to capo Paulie Gualtieri. After Silvio suffers an asthma attack, Vito even tells capo, Larry Barese that he is in fact the best candidate for becoming boss, however this fails as Tony soon recovers. Around this time, Vito also loses a lot of weight, especially when compared to his weight in the earlier seasons.
During boss of the Lupertazzi Crime Family, Johnny "Johnny Sack" Sacrimoni's daughter's wedding, Vito claims to be feeling sick and leaves with his family. At home, Vito leaves home and tells his wife that he has to make some collections. Later, at a gay bar, Lupertazzi Family associate, Sal Iaccuzzo and an unnamed associate make a collection there only to see Vito dancing with a man in a sexual manner. Vito tries to dismiss the incident, but Sal and the other man leave. Vito begins to realize how he may be whacked if Sal outs him, to which Vito then takes a ton of his family's money and goes on the run.
Vito then goes into hiding in New Hampshire where he moves into a bed-and-breakfast, where he goes under the name "Vincent" for the time being. During his time in his new life, Vito meets a diner cook named Jim "Johnny Cakes" Witowski who he starts a relationship with. Despite Vito being hesitant at first, the two start dating. However, eventually Vito felt guilty for leaving his family and left New Hampshire while Jim slept. While on his drive to New Jersey, Vito crashed into a parked car. The owner of the car confronts Vito, but after Vito fails to stop the man from calling the police, Vito shoots and murders the man and then leaves.
Vito approaches Tony with the protection of his brother, Bryan and claims his strange behavior had been caused by a new medication he had been taking. In order to both stay alive and still be a part of the Mafia, Vito offers Tony $200,000 to let him take charge in the family's operations in Atlantic City. Tony, unsure if he should accept the offer and have to deal with the Lupertazzis, orders capo Carlo Gervasi to whack Vito. Afterwards, Vito reunites his family, claiming that he had left them due to him being an undercover CIA agent and left to go to Afghanistan. One night, Vito enters his hotel room where is then ambushed and tied up by Lupertazzi boss, Phil Leotardo, Gerry Torciano and Dominic Gamiello. Phil briefly berates Vito for being a "disgrace" before having Vito beaten to death.
