“ | Always so pushy... You haven't changed at all... I made the right choice when I resigned as a Hunter... I don't want to be a rude jerk like you. | „ |
~ Volt Kraken |
Volt Kraken, also known as Squid Adler in the original English localization, is one of the eight Maverick bosses and a minor antagonist in Mega Man X5. He is the wielder of the Tri-Thunder, the weapon Shining Firefly is weak to. Kraken is weak to the Goo Shaver.
Personality[]
Volt Kraken is a pacifistic Repliroid who disagreed with the Hunters' methods, which explains why he retired. He worked as a researcher for the production of energy. Despite his recluse nature, Kraken did have standards on etiquette, as his reply to X barging in on him was to chastise him. Kraken was willing to cooperate with the Hunters had it not been for the Maverick Virus tearing his programming (and therefore soul) apart. After the Virus corrupted his soul completely, he was reduced to a violent, crazed husk. In this state, Kraken "wanted" to avenge his old friend Launch Octopus, despite acknowledging prior that his old friend was a lost cause following his own corruption.
His Weapon[]
Volt Kraken wields the Tri-Thunder Shot. The individual shots are called Tri-Thunders, and their behaviour is similar to the Thunder Beams from the original Rockman.
Biography[]
Kraken used to be a Maverick Hunter (probably as a member of the 6th Naval Unit) and a friend of Launch Octopus. He eventually resigned from his job due to disagreeing with the Hunter's methods, moving into a peaceful and recluse life as a researcher, working on new forms of energy production. During the Earth Crisis, the Hunters seek Kraken's help, as he had an Energy Cart needed to power up the Enigma cannon. While Kraken was willing to cooperate (not before chastising the Hunters for their overall rude behavior), he ends corrupted by the Sigma Virus and attacks them to avenge his old friend, forcing the Hunters to defeat him.
Kraken floats around his vertical arena and constantly shooting his Tri Thunder, which sends three electric sparks in different directions. After some damage he will cover the floor in electricity and summon a sometimes-electrified box on the middle of the screen, limiting player movement. When low on health he will extend his tentacles and shoot a barrage of bolts. His weaknesses are the Goo Shaver with X and F-Splasher with Zero.
