Vona is a commander of the Legion of Dusk and antagonist in the Ixalan block from Magic: the Gathering.
History[]
Vona is a vampire from the plane of Ixalan. The Vampires of this plane stole the continent of Torrezon from the Brazen Coalition. After conquering this land, the Legion of Dusk continued to conquer more of Ixalan. Vona was a powerful soldier and her skills led to the Legion of Dusk winning many wars. During the Apostasine War, she breached a fortified village on her own and murdered 12 enemy soldiers, giving her the title of the Butcher of Magan. While most of the vampires in this world partook in blood fasts and drank from only criminals, Vona drinks blood from whomever she wants and enjoys doing so. During the Ixalan block, Vona came to the continent of Ixalan(Ixalan is both a continent and a plane) to claim the Immortal Sun, a powerful artifact that grants great power(and imprisons all Planeswalkers on the plane it is on), as well as to find Elenda, a famous vampiric saint. On her journey, she stole the Thaumatic Compass from the Planeswalkers Jace Beleren and Vraska in order to aid her. She was soon confronted by the Planeswalker Huatli and the merfolk Tishana, who took the compass from Vona and left her surrounded by dinosaurs. She escaped and met with the vampire cleric Mavren Fien and the two scaled the tower of Orazca.
At this time, the Immortal Sun was no longer under the protection of Azor and under the control of the merfolk Kumena. The two reached Kumena and knocked him out of the temple and were in control of the Immortal Sun. Shortly afterwards, Huatli, Tishana, the minotaur Planeswalker Angrath, and his crew arrived and they all clashed for control. Unbeknownst to all involved, the planeswalker Tezzeret removed the Immortal Sun from Ixalan. Once it was clear that the object of everyone's desire was gone, Elenda arrived and asserted that their mission was over. Vona, who was angry and confused, asked why she left and denied the vampires of Ixalan immortality. She responded by saying that immortality was meant to help the vampires guard the Immortal Sun and peace would lead to their salvation. Elenda guarded the Immortal Sun until Vona and Mavren arrived. Elenda asked to be brought to Queen Miralda, but Vona denied her request. In response, Mavren punished Vona for speaking against Elenda. Afterwards, the three left Ixalan and returned to Torrezon.

Trivia[]
- In an alternate ending to the Ixalan block, the Legion of Dusk gained control over Orazca. Vona convinced Elenda to allow her to stay in Orazca but after reaching it, she was eaten by a dinosaur.
