Biography[]
The Blue Lotus[]
Gibbons is first seen reading a newspaper, walking around the streets, only for a young Chinese man that was transporting Tintin to Mitsuhirato to accidentally bump into him. Gibbons flies into a rage and assaults him, but Tintin saves the young man by breaking his cane, though he fails to conquer the hatred of the wealthy businessman, who walks away in anger, promising to get revenge.
He is then seen in a restaurant, explaining to his friend Dawson that a young European man attacked him for assaulting a young Chinese man. Dawson then tells Gibbons that he can help him for his revenge, as since he is the head of the Police Grant International, he can have Tintin arrested by his forces for assault. When Tintin is detained, Dawson arranges for him to be roughed up by the prison guards as a favor to Gibbons, but Tintin beats up the guards instead and is released. Gibbons is later seen in his car as Tintin sneaked out of the city by hiding in a bag of rice. He then sees that Tintin is wanted by the Japanese, using this opportunity to have the military catch Tintin and arrest him again. However, he was not found and Gibbons was then arrested for passing false information.
He is later seen when Tintin encounters him in his office, he gave him the card that was found earlier, laying on the ground. However, as Tintin goes to Fang Hsi Ying's home to find him so he can cure Didi from his madness, he took notes of the location he was going to and called Dawson to have his men arrest Tintin right outside Fang's home, which results in a success as Tintin is then taken to the military and dragged around the city, then sentenced to death. However, Tintin manages to escape.
Trivia[]
- Gibbons was removed from the 1991 TV adaptation due to his racist, cruel and violent behavior as well as his hatred of the Chinese race, which is considered as discrimination.
- He must not be confused with Gibbons from Tintin in the Congo.
