~ Waddle Doo in Kirby Star Allies
Waddle Doos are major antagonists in the Kirby franchise. They are the cycloptic relatives of Waddle Dees, and just like them, have been known to loyally serve Dedede.
Waddle Doos have a similar anatomy to Waddle Dees, sharing their yellow feet, round bodies, and orange skin. However, in the place of a face, a Waddle Doo has a singular eye instead. They also have two strains of hair above said eye.
Biography[]
Kirby's Dream Land[]
Waddle Doos, alongside their regular brethren, made their debut in Kirby's Dream Land. Here, they are usually seen either wielding parasols or shooting an energy whip if Kirby comes nears them. Kracko can also produce Waddle Doos.
Kirby's Adventure/Kirby's Nightmare in Dream Land[]
Waddle Doo returned with virtually the same behavior. Because this game was the first to introduce Kirby's signature copying power, Waddle Doos can now be inhaled in order to grant Kirby with the Beam ability. However, Parasol Waddle Doos will give Kirby the Parasol ability instead. A Waddle Doo also appears as the first opponent in the Quick Draw sub-game. Lastly, a Waddle Doo suddenly appears in Kirby's dream bubble and whacks him on the head with a hammer, disturbing the clueless puffball's nap.
Kirby's Avalanche[]
Waddle Doo is the third and last opponent faced in easy mode of Kirby's Avalanche. In this game, he takes vengeance for Waddle Dee, who is stated to be his cousin, by battling Kirby at a game of Avalanche.
Kirby Super Star and Kirby Super Star Ultra[]
Waddle Doo once again acts as a reoccurring enemy throughout the game. However, he also becomes an ally, via Kirby converting his Beam ability into a Helper. Waddle Doo is the first enemy encountered in Spring Breeze and assists Dedede in stealing all the food in Dream Land. Waddle Doo is also the first opponent in Samurai Kirby. A pale green Waddle Doo is also one of the playable characters in Helper to Hero.
Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards[]
Waddle Doo makes an intriguing appearance in Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards: when a Waddle Dee is possessed by Dark Rimuru, he becomes a Waddle Doo. Unlike other Waddle Doos, this one doesn't fire laser beams and instead primarily fights using brute force. After Kirby defeats the Waddle Doo, Dark Rimuru escapes from its host, transforming the Waddle Doo back into a Waddle Dee.
Kirby: Canvas Curse[]
Waddle Doo once again shows up as a regular enemy in this game. However, He also appears as the fifth playable character in the game, being unlocked if the game is beaten with all other characters.
Other Media[]
Super Smash Bros.[]
Super Smash Bros. Brawl[]
Waddle Doos makes several appearances in King Dedede's move set, being tossed forward in his side special and shooting an electricity beam afterward and appearing in his Final Smash, Waddle Dee Army. Waddle Doo also appears as a Trophy and according to the game files, was originally planned to be an enemy in Subspace Emissary.
Super Smash Bros. for 3DS[]
While Waddle Doos no longer appear in King Dedede's moveset and are absent entirely from Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Waddle Doos appear as standard enemies in the Super Smash Bros. for 3DS-exclusive mod Smash Run, behaving like their original counterparts. Waddle Doos also appears in the Kirby-themed Vs. Enemy Team final battle. Outside of Smash Run, a Waddle Doo also appears on one of the game's many trophies.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[]
In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, a Waddle Doo also makes an appearance as one of the game's many spirits. A novice-rank, attack-type spirit that grants no effect on use, their spirit battle has the player fight against three Kirbys on the Dream Land stage, with part of the stage's floor being electrified and the Kirbys starting the battle with a Super Scope.
Waddle Doo, named Captain Waddle Doo, is a recurring character in the anime Kirby: Right Back at Ya!. Captain Waddle Doo is a loyal minion of King Dedede and often leads his army of Waddle Dees. Unlike the Waddle Doos in the games, Captain Waddle Doo is light orange with magenta feet and cannot use energy beam attacks, instead wielding a small dagger he carries with him at all times. Captain Waddle Doo is shown to be rather incompetent and somewhat forgetful, such as when he doesn't remember how many Waddle Dees are in the castle. However, he also cares deeply for his soldiers and is usually effective leader when it comes to them, going so far to betray King Dedede and Escargoon when they starved the Waddle Dees by feeding them paper-thin sandwiches to save money. In addition to his major role in the anime, Captain Waddle Doo also makes a cameo in the Kirby Quest subgame of Kirby Mass Attack, where he appears alongside Escargoon and several Waddle Dees in one of King Dedede's attacks.
