Biography[]
Overview[]
Henslow was a wealthy man who owned a successful chain of furniture stores. He and his wife Laura had a daughter named Charlotte. He often donated to charity or churches and was considered a pillar of his community. He mentioned to stay away from vices such as drinking or gambling. Unknown to anyone including his own family, Wade was a closeted gay man who had an affair with one of his employees, Dylan Stevens. He often made false promises to Stevens that he would leave his family so they could be together.
"Buried Secrets"[]
Eventually, Dylan got tired of Wade's lies and confronted him, threatening to oust him as gay. Terrified of having his double life exposed, Wade met up with Dylan, tricked him into letting his guard down by hugging him and got the young man into the car. Once inside, Wade killed Dylan by bashing his head against the dashboard of his car. He then took the body and buried him in the woods behind his house. When his wife came home from lunch with their daughter, she noticed the mud on his clothes but thought nothing of it. Wade then cleaned up most of the blood in the car.
Over the course of two weeks, Wade was constantly harassed by Gary Stevens, Dylan's father who reported his son missing and told the cops of the affair. However, Wade avoided detection because of his reputation in the community and Dylan's history of mental illness and drug abuse. Wade also refused to take out a restraining order against Stevens, since his head of security was a former cop. To get Wade's attention, Gary and his cousin Blake kidnapped Charlotte, sending a video of the kidnapping to Wade and threatening to hurt her unless until he told them where Dylan was. Officer Ruzek witnessed the kidnapping, but couldn't save Charlotte in time, although reported to his unit who got her parents' address.
When the police arrived at the house, Wade tried to act as surprised as his wife Laura, but Sergeant Hank Voight knew he was aware of the kidnapping because he did not attempt to call his daughter like his wife was trying to and speculated that he already spoke with the assailants and agreed not to talk to the cops. Wade admitted this but lied that he did not know who the kidnappers were but knew that they wanted money. While the police found the site of the kidnapping, they found no sign of Charlotte. Wade sent his head of security to rescue her, but he ended up getting killed in a shootout with Gary's cousin. Wade eventually told the police that he knew the kidnappers but had lied about their wanting money.
Intelligence soon found out about Dylan's disappearance and the supposed affair of Wade and Dylan. Further searching led to pictures of Wade and Dylan in a romantic embrace being discover and Voight confronted him, but he denied being gay. Voight was not buying it because the picture was taken on the day, he told the other precinct that he didn't see Dylan. After the cops got Stevens' location, they moved in and Wade remained at the precinct.
Wade was later brought to the scene, while Intelligence was negotiating with Gary after he revealed that he never asked for money. Wade saw his story fell apart, as Intelligence revealed Gary never wanted money and only wants to know about his son. They pressed him for answers on Dylan but Wade would rather have Gary shot then admit anything, before Gary called. He then spoke to the enraged Gary, frantically offering money should he release Charlotte, but Gary refused a bribe and demanded his son's location. Unable to admit the truth without endangering his daughter or compromising himself, Wade stated he had no idea and a furious Gary showed Wade his daughter with a gun to her head, threatening to shoot if Wade did not come clean. Seeing this Wade suffered a breakdown, as he frantically told Intelligence that Gary is lying but Voight lost his patience and questioned if he was really having an affair with Dylan and silenced him to cover it up. Voight threatened to kill Wade himself if he lets his daughter die for that, Wade did not answer and cried that he didn't do anything before a shot went off. He cried at the sound, but it was revealed to have been fired by Detective Jay Halstead. This allowed the detectives to move in.
A grievously wounded Gary spoke to Ruzek about how he last spoke to Dylan and how they discussed the affair. He taunted a stunned Charlotte about how her father was living a double life and presumably killed Dylan to cover it up. Meanwhile, Voight overheard this and seemingly confirms his suspicions.
Intelligence decided to look into Gary's story and after searching the Henslow house, they notified a surprised Laura of the affair, found the blood in the car and Laura tipped them off to the woods. There Intelligence discovered Dylan's body buried on the property. A dying Gary was shown the picture of the body and succumbed to his wound, while Charlotte was rescued.
Charlotte was escorted out by Ruzek, as Wade voiced how he was relieved she was okay and tried to hug her, but she turned away from him and the cops held him until Officer Kevin Atwater slapped the cuffs on him for murdering Dylan. Voight admonished him for killing his lover and nearly letting his child die, because he was afraid to tell his family who he really was. Ashamed of his actions, a defeated Wade tried to defend himself, but Voight has had enough of him and deeming him a piece of garbage he told Kevin to get Wade out of his sight and have him booked for murder. The horrified Wade was hauled off to the police car.
He is then imprisoned for killing Dylan with his crimes being exposed to the city.
