Wade Mahaney is the leader of The 3 Intangible Jocks and the main antagonist in the Season One episode "Kinetic" of Smallville.

He was portrayed by Kavan Smith.

History[]

Early life[]

Wade was a former football player for the Smallville High Crows in 1996 and had a dozen scholarships lined up until he blew out his knee. With his future dreams crushed, it seemed that Wade was unlikely to ever leave Smallville, but he later made a discovery that liquefied meteorites mixed with tattoo ink gave him and his friends the ability to phase through solid objects.

Wade and his gang, The Intangible Jocks, committed robberies with their power of intangibility allowing them to walk through walls, bypass security systems and take whatever they wanted without anyone noticing. However, during a heist at the Smallville Savings and Loan, a member of the team, Scott, lost his arm when he phased through the vault.

Kinetic[]

Wade Mahaney, Derek Fox and Scott Bowman managed to break into the Luthor Mansion, walking right through the walls wearing ski masks while Clark Kent and Chloe Sullivan visiting. They enter the vault and fill their bags with cash, coins, precious artifacts and a computer disc containing some sensitive files.

On their way out, they encountered Clark and put him in a headlock before hitting him in the gut and slammed him to the floor because the meteor rock from the tattoos rendered Clark powerless. Chloe tried to escape but got in the way and was pushed out of a fourth story window.

Fortunately, she landed in soft grass but had to spend several days recovering in the hospital. At the gang's loft, Wade was disappointed that his heist wasn't on the news. Scott guessed that Lex Luthor had enough money that it wasn't worth mentioning but Derek figured that they must have stolen something valuable that Luthor didn't want to mention it on the news.

They check out the disc, and discover Lex was stealing money from his father to fund a personal project involving a particle accelerator. They decided to blackmail Lex with the disc but Derek warned them that the tattoo ink from the meteor rocks was starting to fade faster then usual and must find a new member for their team. At the mansion, Lex was on the phone giving his security firm a hard time when the masked burglars showed up again demanding a million dollars or they will upload the disc to the Internet. While leaving the store Clark noticed Wade and saw his bright green tattoo.

Wade approached Whitney Fordman at his family's department store who recognizes Whitney from the football games, and asks about his future. Whitney tells him the truth, and Wade commiserates, saying he lost a scholarship due to an injury. Wade invites him to a party at their place that night. At the party, Wade shows Whitney their tattoo machine, and talked him into getting one.

The tattoo ink is a bright, meteor rock green. Later, while walking through a traffic tunnel, Wade and the gang threw Whitney in front of a truck and it passes right through him; the jocks and Whitney cheered on. After Chloe awakened, she remembered one of the robbers had an octagon tattoo. Clark goes back to Fordman's to ask Whitney about the guy with that tattoo. He discovers that Whitney has a new tattoo and warns him to stay away from those guys.

The following evening, Wade and the gang picks up Whitney at the store and Clark follows. They meet Lex Luthor in a meat locker, but Lex didn't actually bring the money. Wade threatens Lex and Whitney starts to panic. Their time is running out and they have to leave. When Clark arrives, the meteor rock in the tattoos has rendered him helpless and the guys hit him in the head with a meat hook, but he manages to call out Whitney's name before they all disappear through the wall.

Returning to their loft, Wade gave Whitney a hard time about his performance. They argue about keeping him in the gang, but they need new blood. The meteor rock tattoos work by speeding up their metabolism, and they are burning out. Whitney later told Clark everything and the pair planned to to sneak into the gang's loft and get the disc back.

The loft seems deserted. Clark uses his X-ray vision to find the disc hidden in the ventilation ducts, but then the gang returns. When Clark crushes the disc, Wade sticks his hand right into Clark's chest. They leave him reeling and take Whitney out back where they have dozens of junk cars stacked up. Wade had planned to drop a car on Whitney. Wade holds Whitney under one car while Scott is at the controls set to drop it on them. The plan is that the car will pass right through Wade, but it will crush Whitney. Then Lex sneaks up behind him and zaps him with a stun gun.

As Lex calls the police, Clark rushes off to find Whitney. Scott released the car just as Wade's tattoo fades from bright to dull green. Clark rushes in and grabs Whitney just as the car falls on Wade, who cheered wildly before being crushed. The other jocks were later arrested.
