Wade Whitehouse is the main protagonist of the 1997 crime drama film Affliction. He is a policeman in a small town in New Hampshire who becomes fixated on the accidental death of a hunter and becomes convinced that there is more to it than meets the eye. While intially acting as an anti-hero of sorts, he gradually turns villainous as his paranoia grows and his sanity deteriorates due to his life falling apart around him. He also has a drinking problem which gradually gets worse as the film progresses.
He was portrayed by Nick Nolte, who also played David Banner in Hulk, Mulgarath in The Spiderwick Chronicles, and voiced Vincent in Over the Hedge.
Biography[]
Early Life[]
Wade grew up in an abusive and turbulent household, with his alcoholic father Glen, his mother, and his two brothers and sister. He received the brunt of his father's violence as a child, at one point getting his arm broken by him in a drunken rage. These experiences greatly contributed to his mental instability as an adult. He also had a wife, Lillian, who he later divorced. Lillian got custody of his daughter Jill, although he was allowed to see her every once in a while. After this he settled into living with his girlfriend Margie.
