Wafner is the main antagonist of the 2018 World War II film Overlord.
He was portrayed by Pilou Asbæk, who also played Euron Greyjoy in Game of Thrones.
Wafner is an SS-Hauptsturmführer and the commander of the Nazi forces who had seized control of a French village. The soldiers encounter him when he threatens and nearly rapes Chloe, a girl living in the village with her sick aunt, causing Boyce to intervene and attack him and forcing the squad to take him prisoner. When Boyce infiltrates the church, he notices the experiments the Nazis have been conducting on the villagers, and steals one of the serums as evidence. Ford beats and interrogates Wafner about the serum, but refuses to answer.
On D-Day, as the squad prepares to infiltrate the church, Wafner attacks Chase and kills him, forcing Boyce to use the serum on Chase, which brings him to life but causes him to mutate, forcing Boyce to pulverize him.
Wafner escapes and takes Chloe's brother Paul hostage, but not before Paul blows off part of his face. Back at the lab, Wafner injects the serum into himself against Schmidt's warnings, causing him to go insane.
While planting charges around the lab, Ford is attacked by Wafner, and Ford and Boyce both fight him.
In the ensuing fight, Ford injects the serum into himself to continue fighting and Wafner is eventually sent down into a pit. Ford stays behind just as Wafner emerges from the pit and urges Boyce to detonate the charges, and Boyce escapes just as the charges destroy the lab and the radio tower, killing Ford, Wafner, and the experimented soldiers in the process. And so, the war has ended for good.
