Walter Breachway is an antagonist in the 2018 Spike Lee film BlacKkKlansman.

He was portrayed by Ryan Eggold.

History

A virulent racist, in the late 1970s Walter was chapter President of the Colorado branch of the Invisible Empire of the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan.

Knowing that the Klan was subject to infiltration by various law enforcement agencies, Walter was still keen to grow the group and make it more mainstream. He was challenged by the more extreme members of the Klan such as Felix Kendrickson. One day he received a phone call from a man named Ron Stallworth, who he thought was a white male racist like him. Little did he know that Stallworth was actually a black undercover police officer. Feeling that Stallworth had potential he invited him to a face to face meeting.

Obviously, since Stallworth could never meet with the Klansman owing to his race, Flip Zimmerman posed as Stallworth in face to face meetings and infiltrated the Klan under the name. Walter was pleased with his latest recruit, and defended him against the paranoid Kendrickson.

A short time later Walter decided to step down as chapter President. Fearing that a psychopath like Kendrickson would be elected leader in his place, Walter endorsed Stallworth to take his place.

Walter was thrilled when grand wizard David Duke came to town to induct Stallworth in to the Klan. Stallworth's investigation ended a short time later. Walter and the other Klansmen were left to pick up the pieces after Stallworth humiliated Duke, and Kendrickson died after setting off a bomb meant to kill a young civil rights leader.
