~ Walter Ego |
Walter Ego is a semi-recurring villain from the Teletoon animated series, Sidekick. He is a corrupt and sadistic game show host, who tortures and maims his contestants for ratings and monetary gain. Originally, he was just a costume worn by Master XOX but he somehow became a separate entity in future episodes. He first appeared in "Sidekick Sideshow" as a costume worn by XOX and returned in "Walter Ego Presents: Vapo House" as a real person.
Biography[]
In "Sidekick Sideshow", Walter Ego hosted the gameshow, Sidekick Sideshow, which Eric, Trevor, Kitty, and Vana got onto. Walter introduced everyone to the rules of the game; every single sidekick would compete in a challenge and one person would get eliminated with each challenge, until the end. He suggested numerous times that the losing competitors would "die", though it was kind of ambiguous whether this death was real or just a fake death in the game. It seemed like this was the former.
The first challenge was "Sink or Spin", a game where he'd spin all the sidekicks around in a carnival ride and have the dizzy people try to cross over a stepping stone pathway over a vat of robo-shark-infested waters. All of the sidekicks made it across, except for Kitty, who sacrificed her position in the game to help Eric get across. Kitty was then consumed by a robo-shark and eliminated from the game.
The next round was called "Be the Ball", a Pachinko-type game, where sidekicks would drop down an actual giant Pachinko game and slam into a bunch of obstacles, while trying to land safely at the bottom. The three remaining contestants were dropped into the zone, leading to Eric and Trevor getting brutally beaten up by every single obstacle on the way down. Vana, on the other hand, used her skills and prowess to easily glide through all of the traps unscathed and be the first one to land at the end. However, when Eric and Trevor came down after, they both knocked Vana off the landing platform and into the flames of the demon dimension below. Trevor, for whatever reason, jumped in to go after her, eliminating both of them.
This left Eric as the last remaining contestant in the game. Eric's final challenge was the "Lightning Round", where he had to cross a massive room full of lightning. Eric ran through the lighting room, dodging all the lighting bolts by sheer luck and made it very close to the end, before tripping and falling. When he landed on the ground, he just barely crossed the finish line by the tip of his nose and won. It was clear that Walter Ego never meant for him to win so in lieu of Eric's victory, Walter Ego activated the "Sidekick Sideshow Teleporter", which was just a giant boxing glove that knocked Eric out cold.
When Eric woke up, he found himself in a dungeon, along with his eliminated friends, who were all locked up in chains. Walter Ego entered, holding a giant laser cannon and broke the news to Eric that there was no award ceremony and the whole game show was a sham. Walter Ego then revealed that he was actually Master XOX in disguise. XOX told everyone about how his evil plan was to run an unwinnable game show that would lure the sidekicks into a trap so he could destroy them but Eric ruined it by winning the game and now he was going to destroy him. Eric reasoned with XOX and told him that there could be a better alternative, which would make him a lot of fame and fortune and that was just to start another game show as himself.
XOX took Eric's advice and let him go, starting up his own villain-themed game show called "E-Vile Henchman Sideshow", where his lackeys, Brute Brutal, Mitch, and Ethan would get blown up over and over again for no reason at all. The sidekicks watched the TV show from back at Eric's home and stupidly, Eric and Trevor got the idea to sign up to try and get into the show, themselves, knowingly leading themselves right back into XOX's trap again, ready to start the whole ordeal all over again.
In "Walter Ego Presents: Vapo House", Walter Ego returned as the host of a reality TV show called "Vapo House", where he had kidnapped Eric, Trevor, Kitty, Vana, Mandy, and Random Otherguy. Walter brought them into a fancy house, where the six of them would live together in front of millions of cameras, that would broadcast their lives on television. The contestants compete in a series of challenges and eliminate each other one by one. The last sidekick standing would win a brand new car, a lifetime supply of chocolate-bacon-popcorn logs, and a key that opens any lock in the city. Anyone who gets voted off would get vaporized, which Walter demonstrated by immediately vaporizing Random Otherguy to death for no reason.
Trivia[]
- His name is a pun on the term "Alter-Ego", which is what he initially started off as before being retconned into an individual entity, as he and XOX were seen in the same room together without any acknowledgement of them previously being the same person.
