Walter Londra is the main antagonist of Horizon Forbidden West's 2023 DLC expansion Burning Shores. He is the CEO and the magnate of the space-mining company Heaven¢ (Heaven Cent) and later a member of the Far Zenith, being one of the few to escape Earth through the Odyssey. He is the leader of his Quen Devotees whom he brainwashed as his followers to his own cult.
After the events of the main story, Londra escaped and come into hiding in the Burning Shores, plotting his next plans against Earth.
He was voiced and mo-capped by Sam Witwer, who also played Galen Marek/Starkiller, Emperor Palpatine and Dark Apprentice from Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, Darth Maul and the Son in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Doomsday in Smallville, Ben Lockwood in Supergirl, Mr. Hyde in Once Upon a Time, Neil Perry in Dexter, Ocean Master in Justice League: Throne of Atlantis and Captain Ferris in The Callisto Protocol.
Appearance[]
Londra is seen as a middle-aged man with a moustache as well as a short grey hair and brown eyes. He wears a futuristic form-fitting, grey, gold and white Zenith outfit with intricate patterns around it. He is seen to have a Zenith shielding around him, as well.
Personality[]
Hypocritical and manipulative, Londra establishes himself as a god wannabe who attempted to brainwash several Quen to make them join his twisted cause, known as the Ascension, by making sure that they do not rebel against him by using the MSP (Mutiny Suppression Protocol) as a psychological weapon into making them believe that he is their own God.
He is also reputably arrogant, treating Aloy and Seyka as nothing more than insects and bugs, flaunting on his advanced weaponry and ensuring that they would be crushed as one. In an ironic twist of fate he also showed some disdain to other Zeniths, including Gerard Bieri, Erik Visser and Verbena Sutter.
History[]
Past[]
Londra was an aerospace magnate, who served as the CEO of Heaven¢ (Heaven Cent) in Los Angeles, a space-mining company that specialises in mining rare Earth metals from asteroids via the ships and drones that he built to be sent to the outer space. Outside of being a magnate, Londra was also a celebrity, deeply invested in the world of holographic entertainment as he poured his fundings over it, as his late wife Evelyn was also a famous holo-entertainment actress. Throughout their life Londra and Evelyn were almost featured in all major news outlets and tabloids.
When Earth was ravaged by the Faro Plague in 2065 Londra was among the few Zeniths to escape Earth through the Odyssey, heading to the new extrasolar colony of Sirius. But during those years, Londra, amongst other Zeniths, spent most of their centuries in innovative stagnation, something that Tilda van der Meer had deep sentiments with.
Londra was one of the few who agreeingly volunteered for the Nemesis digital storage project by storing his mind into the AI. However, after Nemesis became rogue and sentient who turned against their creators in 13 January 3012, Londra remarked how he heard the cacophonous voices from his implant, repeatedly uttering "WALTER. I AM YOU.", showcasing its desire to destroy him and the rest of the Zeniths.
In its attempts to formulate his plan to stop the rogue AI, Londra pondered on the 2050s and 2060s R&D and defence conglomerates on the old Earth who must have had weapon prototypes buried within, in such chance that it will be effective against defeating Nemesis before it makes landfall on Earth.
Horizon Forbidden West[]
While Londra is not present in the main story, Sylens revealed that there are an actual total of thirteen Far Zeniths who arrived on Earth through the Odyssey ship, as opposed to the eleven that was mistakenly purported. During the attack of the Zenith base with Aloy's team, Londra managed to escape and went into hiding within the post-apocalyptic ruins of Los Angeles, now known as the Burning Shores within the present-time. During this time, he is the only last Zenith to ever exist.
The Burning Shores[]
Londra was firstly seen as an audio log, when Aloy and Seyka encountered an anti-air and anti-ship Zenith defence drone at the ruins of an old skyscraper, mocking Aloy that he is one step ahead of her, unlike his former Zenith comrades. During those times he managed to brainwash a group of Quen through the MSP (Mutiny Suppression Protocol) whom he used as his own personal army, in an attempt to make himself as a God to them, by putting them into submission.
Londra also made them falsely believe that they will be a part of the "ritual" known as the Ascension, while also collecting genetic samples from various Quen to make clones of the Quen population, as well as with others who will be a part of his "retinue"; at the same time he would use MSP on them, so that no one would defy his ruling in his own planetary colony. He was later revealed to be responsible for kidnapping Seyka's sister Kina and another Quen known as Peera as part of the selection process to emulate his late wife Evelyn. He also created a Zenith ship by using a Horus' machine-creating component that would carry his brainwashed Quen Devotees and himself to space, in order to escape Earth from Nemesis, where he would also irradiate thousands of tribals in the process.
When his plans were soon foiled by Aloy and Seyka during their attack within his park, Londra retreated back to the Horus near the Hollywood ruins in his final attempt to kill the duo for messing with his plans including the foiling of the Ascension. Interfacing with the machine's Quantum Processing Module, Londra awakened the Horus as he proceeded to reach the closest shore, in order to slow down the Horus' overheating process. However, despite his efforts and his powerful weaponry, Londra was still outmatched by Aloy and Seyka, leading to his death and thwarting his plans of destroying Earth, once and for all.
With Londra's death, the Zeniths are permanently wiped out of existence. At the same time, being the last Old One, his demise also led to the Old Ones being completely extinct for good.
Abilities[]
- Energy Shielding: Like most Zeniths, Londra is surrounded with a purplish energy shield that deflects all forms of attacks, thereby making him impervious.
- Mutiny Suppression Protocol: Londra is capable of brainwashing a group of tribals through the MSP, whom he had perfected, where he used it against various Quen by turning them as his own enforcers while he prepared for the Ascension.
- Machine Hacking: Londra is capable of hacking a Horus by hacking through its processing module, allowing him to control it by himself during his final battle with Aloy and Seyka.
- Vast Resources: Being the CEO of Heaven¢ (Heaven Cent), Londra was able to amass a huge amount of wealth from his space-mining operations. He also had access to Zenith tech, where he was able to turn a compound within Hollywood into his own personal bunker for him and his followers, as well as creating his own personal rocket on Earth by using a Horus' machine-creating component.
