~ General Winkler during the fight.

SS-Oberstgruppenfuhrer Walter Winkler is a major antagonist in the 2019 video game Wolfenstein: Youngblood.

He is a high-ranking officer of the Nazi Party who is assigned to replace Lothar Brandt as the governor of Neu-Paris, and became concerned of the threat Lothar and his Fourth Reich posed. Before he could replace Brandt, the general was killed by Jessica and Sophia Blazkowicz during their search for their father.

He was voiced by Simon Werner.

Biography[]

Background[]

Walter Winkler was born in Germany around the 1900s or 1920s to unnamed parents, and later joined the army during the rise of the Nazi Party. During the Second World War, Winkler served in the North Afrika Corps, and was renowned for his bravery during the conflict. Following the Axis' victory against the Allies by dropping the atom bomb in New York, Winkler continued to serve the Nazi Party. In 1980, Winkler was handpicked by the party to replace Lothar Brandt as the governor of Neu-Paris, as the latter had created his own Fourth Reich. Despite Brandt being ousted, Winkler remained concern of the threat Lothar and his regime posed, and ordered his men to stay on the Fourth Reich's tail.

While in Neu-Paris, General Winkler remained on the zeppelin Nachtfalter, and was given a modified power suit that were based on the D'at Yichud's designs.

Wolfenstein: Youngblood[]

Unbeknownst to the Third Reich, Lothar and his wife Julie went underground to escape execution, falsely joining the French resistance to hide out until they could strike. When Sophia and Jessica Blazkowicz traveled to Neu-Paris in search for their father, they met with Julie, whom advised them to kill Winkler in order to remove the general from the region. In reality, Julie and Lothar intended to regain control of Neu-Paris and wanted Winkler removed before he take his position as governor. On the Nachtfalter, Winkler becomes aware of the twins presence from his security cameras, and orders his men to eliminate them. When his subordinates fail to kill the twins, Winkler becomes agitated, calling them idiots before preparing for the fight.

Donning the modified power suit, Winkler shows off its power by killing two of his men with laser beams before attacking the twins. During the fight, Winkler demonstrates the power of the suit by using cloak and moving at great speeds, but this becomes fruitless due to the twins wearing power suits of their own. Towards the end of the battle, Winkler is sucked into the zeppelin's engine, resulting in the Nachtfalter crashing into the River Seine.

Trivia[]

  • Winkler's power suit design shares some similarities to the robots in Space Truckers and the coil suits in the MDK series.
