Biography[]
Background[]
Little is known about Bell's background other than that she attended university (which shocks many of the fellow COs). At some point, she became employed at Litchfield and became a well-respected correctional officer.
Orange is the New Black[]
Bell is introduced as one of the first correctional officers met by recently convicted Piper Chapman. She intimidates Chapman with her strict temper, and performs a 'squat and cough' on her. Bell appears to be one of the more competent guards who harshly administers discipline across the inmates.
It is revealed that she is having a romantic relationship with fellow CO Scott O'Neill. The pair routinely engage in sexual conduct whilst working. Bell voices concern after the new private company who takes over Litchfield begins to hire underqualified guards and overwhelm inmate capacity. After the guards walk out on Caputo, the warden, Bell leaves last.
Bell and O'Neill are visited by former CO Baxter Bayler in the aftermath of inmate Poussey Washington's death. They show some concern toward Bayley's mental state, but mostly dismiss it and speak about their upcoming parenthood.
Bell then gets a job as a crossing patrol guard, and is later revealed to be pregnant with O'Neill's baby. She later gets a job at the ICE detention centre, where she maintains her same rough disposition. Bell's redemption comes when inmate Gloria Mendoza's phone is discovered to liaise with her children. Bell overlooks this, sympathising with Mendoza as a mother.
