Wanda Zilch is one of the main antagonists (alongside Bozo, Julie and Slug) from the 1984 live action superhero film The Toxic Avenger.
She is a customer at Tromaville Health Club, who is also a sadistic bully who takes pleasure in killing people in hit and runs and making life miserable for the movie's protagonist, Melvin.
She was portrayed by Jennifer Babtist.
Biography[]
Wanda is first seen at Tromaville Health Club, where she and her friends Julie, Slug and Bozo frequently work out. They all poke fun at the club's frail-bodied janitor named Melvin Ferd III for his constant awkwardness, particularly when he oafishly mops one customer's head and bumps the other one into the pool. Not long after, Wanda talks to her boyfriend Slug about the hit and run murders they commit, turning her on. When Melvin walks in on them participating in sexual activity, Wanda threatens to kill him with a knife.
Later that evening, Wanda and her friends commit another hit and run on a child riding a bicycle. Excited, Wanda and Julie get out of the car and take photos of their deceased victim.
The next day, she and her friends come up with a plan to publicly humiliate Melvin, in which Melvin kisses a sheep in front of everyone at the gym. Wanda enjoys his humiliation as does everyone else, and Melvin, embarrassed, flees from those taunting him. He manages to escape through an upstairs window but lands in a barrel of chemical waste in a truck outside. Wanda, along with everyone else, makes her way outside onto the street to see what happened. She laughs at the sight of Melvin on the ground and takes great pleasure in watching him writhe around in agony as the chemicals burn him.
In the gym, sometime after the incident, she and Julie look at the photos they took of the dead boy on the bicycle whom they had ran over. She tells Julie that the sight of the blood turns her on.
Later, in the gym's sauna room, she takes out the photos she took of the boy and pleasures herself to them. She's too busy enjoying herself to notice Melvin (now The Toxic Avenger), who comes into the sauna room and picks her up, setting her down on the hot rocks. She screams in agony as Toxie holds her down on the hot rocks and her rear end burns. This is where she is last seen in most cuts of the movie, but in certain cuts/deleted scenes she is seen in a police station having been arrested for the hit and run murders. She now wears a kind of diaper, is struggling to walk properly and likely feels humiliated.
Personality[]
Like her friends, Wanda is a cruel, heartless, psychotic sadist who takes immense enjoyment in killing people in hit and runs as part of a game, and is particularly cruel to Melvin, whom she looks down upon for his disability.
She is also highly perverted, as she admits that the sight of her dead victims turns her on, which shows that she has necrophilic tendencies, and is also not above murdering children.
Trivia[]
The character is only called Wanda in the credits, but her surname was revealed in the deleted scene in the police station, where she calls herself Wanda Zilch.
