Warden Ackerman is the secondary antagonist of the eighth season of Red Dwarf. He is an immensely corrupt and cruel prison warden acting as one of the most respected officers aboard the nano-resurrected Red Dwarf.

He was portrayed by Graham McTavish, who also voiced Dracula, Thundercracker, and Loki Laufeyson.

Appearance[]

Ackerman was a tall, muscular fair-skinned man with handsome facial features, a mostly bald head and a noticeable twitch. He is usually seen wearing his traditional uniform of an all beige shirt, trousers and tie combo as well as a belt and shoes. He also has a glass left eye which when removed he covers up with a large black eyepatch. Ackerman also has a rather skittish and flamboyant manner of walking and moving which contrasts with his usual no-nonesense brutish exterior and personality.

Personality[]

Ackerman was a blood-hungry, manipulative, cold, deranged and sadistic man who used his position of power and authority to get away with abusing and mistreating his inmates. He was also a fairly charismatic and well-respected man however who apparently had good luck with women.

Biography[]

Early life[]

At some point in his life Ackerman enrolled in the Space Corps and became a highly valued crew member aboard Red Dwarf. He decided to take on the role of prison warden a job he excelled at due to his brutal, bloodthirsty nature as well as his commanding approach to his prisoners. Consequently he became a very valued and respected member of the Red Dwarf crew.

Season 8[]

Ackerman serves as a major antagonist in Series 8. He is a very ruthless prison governor. In the episode Cassandra, he makes it clear that Rimmer needs to "start acting like a man". In Krytie TV. he was robbed of his glass eye, and declared "I'M ONLY HALF LOVELY!". Ackerman then threatened to suspend every Canary privilege unless someone brought the eye back or informed him.
