You only really need...one... BEST... FRIEND!
~ Warren's last words before getting skewered by Duck.

Warren The Eagle, formerly known as Warren the Worm, is the main antagonist of the fourth episode, Friendship in the 2022 TV series Don't Hug Me I'm Scared.

Warren is a "friendship expert" who seeks to teach the puppets about friendship before later turning on them and revealing his psychotic nature.

He was voiced by Baker Terry, who also voices Tony the Talking Clock, Shrignold the Butterfly, The Steak, and The Lamp.

Appearance[]

Warren is a anthropomorphic brainworm with light pink skin. various maroon, red and yellow spots and a dark pink torso with an "Ok Stop" badge on it. He has light pink arms with white gloves. He wears a blue baseball cap with another "Ok Stop" logo with an antenna on top and grey headphones. He has yellow eyes with green pupils, a red nose, pink lips and a pair of distorted teeth, while his monstrous form appears to be be more chubby, fleshy and realistic and lacking the spots, having bubbling flesh instead.

Personality[]

Warren is a very insecure individual. He constantly craves friends and attempts to teach others how to make friends, to no avail. He often tries to make himself feel more important than he actually is by claiming he's an eagle, as well as trying to make people listen to his podcasts that are not very good, and trying to teach people about how to have friends despite not having any. When people calls him out on his unlikability and hypocrisy he becomes increasingly violent and erratic.

Despite this, Warren is also shown to be very obsessive and psychotic. His longing for friends can turn monstrous when given time, as evidence of him stalking the Yellow Guy deeper and deeper into his own mind. He also doesn't seem to have a good sense of empathy, as he showed no concern for Yellow Guy's fear or when he witnessed an imaginary friend kill himself (both of which were caused by him), nor has he ever self-reflected on why no one ever likes him as well as his own hypocrisy despite being lonely.

Biography[]

Origins[]

Warren claims that when he was young, he had a large group of friends who didn't respect him or treat him right, ultimately leading him to call them out and leave them.

At some point, he joined the OK STOP organization, but was presumably fired afterward.

Friendship[]

Warren is seen after Red Guy and Duck get mad at Yellow Guy for forgetting the password to the computer. Warren claims they were being bad friends and attempts to teach them their errors, but the puppets (including Yellow Guy) berate him and question why he was there. Warren would continue pestering them, getting choked up and frustrated with their continued refusal to be his friends, until Yellow Guy gets upset that nobody sent him an email and hides in his mind.

Warren explains that he went to his mind to play with imaginary friends because he thinks nobody loves him in real life, and then turned to leave. Red Guy and Duck panic and convince Warren to help their friend by offering to buy him a restaurant-style meal as a group of friends, exciting Warren and making him agree. Warren enters the mind of Yellow Guy, interrupting Yellow Guy's activities with his imaginary friends and pointing out how none of them were real, before trying to get Yellow Guy to leave and return to his real friends. However, one of Yellow Guy's imaginary friends then complimented Warren, even calling him an eagle and echoing Warren's own claim of some eagles taking more time to grow their wings, which prompted him to try to befriend the other imaginary figures. However, he ended up getting exasperated with the slow, shy attitude of Yellow Guy's imaginary older brother trying to read him the Wi-Fi password, and began to bore the other imaginary friends by playing his podcast. His actions would lead to the imaginary friends leaving and the imaginary older brother to commit suicide when Warren kept harassing him, upsetting Yellow Guy more. Yellow Guy attempts to retreat further into his own mind with more imaginary friends, but Warren continues to follow him.

Yellow Guy, now growing scared of Warren and his increasingly obsessive demeanor, starts to run in his mind away from him. Warren chases him, all while transforming into a large parasitic monster. He eventually catches up to Yellow Guy claiming that he's his only "best friend", but before he could do anything, he is stopped by Duck when he uses his gouging tools to skewer Warren in the head and throw him into a trash can after pulling him out of Yellow Guy's head.

Quotes[]

Warren: How dare you! And how dare you speak to me like that? I refuse to be disrespected ever again! I tried to destroy your reputation and I would like to apologize. I was being a bad friend and I'm ashamed of what I've done.
Red Guy: Was that supposed to be me?
~ Warren mimicking Yellow Guy and Red Guy to teach them about friendship.
Red Guy: Is it because of the way you look?

Warren: The way I-
Red Guy: Yeah, you're sort of lumpy and red raw.
Duck Guy: Is it because you look like part of a bigger animal that fell off or was removed, then came to life?
Warren: That's actually, uhh, a personal choice-
Yellow Guy: He looks more like an old person's finger.
Duck Guy: Reminds me of an infection I had, up my (anus)-
Red Guy: Or was it the voice?
Colin: He looks like a tumor!
Duck Guy: And he stinks!
Yellow Guy: Ooh ooh, I know! It's because you got beady eyes, like a rat.
Red Guy: Or you're just generally unlikable in a way that's hard to pin down.

~ The Puppets (and Colin) pointing out things they don't like about Warren.

Trivia[]

  • Although he claims that the friends he used to have were bad friends, the illustrations he uses to show this imply that he was being a bad friend by constantly obsessing over them.
  • Throughout the episode, he constantly insists that he is an Eagle, even though it is very clear that he is a worm. It's likely to be symbolic for Warren as he pretends to be someone he clearly isn't (ie. someone who understands friendship and is kind and thoughtful to others).
  • Warren could also be symbolic of a parasitic friendship as he leeches off of people while giving nothing of value in return and repeatedly manipulates and guilt trips them into being with him. His transformation from a normal worm to a giant monster might support this, showing how his politeness was just a façade for the monster he was being.
  • He is the only animal teacher in the TV series, similar to Shrignold the Butterfly from the web series. Interestingly, both of their lessons involve how to act around others.
  • Warren is based on Parelaphostrongylus tenuis, a nematode parasite that infests the brains of certain mammals.
