The Watch-bot, also known as the spider bot, is a minor antagonist in the 2011 sci-fi film Transformers: Dark Of The Moon, the third installment of the original continuity of the Transformers live-action film series.
It is a scorpion-like Decepticon spy that can transform into a wristwatch and connect itself to a person to control their body movements.
Biography[]
Upon being passed onto Sam by Dylan, the Watch-bot connected itself to Sam's nervous system to make sure he would not try and doublecross the Decepticons and force him into becoming a double agent to spy on the Autobots to see if they had a plan to fight back.
Later, the Watch-bot accompanied Sam to the liftoff of the Xantium. Upon witnessing Starscream destroy the ship while the Autobots were supposedly onboard, the Watch-bot disconnected from Sam's wrist and began slithering through the bundled cables and grating that made up the platform they stood upon, before Sam furiously stomped it.
While it emited the same sound that every samll Decepticon (like the Insecticons and Decepticon Lensmeter) do when they die, the Watch-bot's body isn't shown, leaving unknown whether it survived or not.
Personality[]
Little is known about the Watch-bot because of its small screen time. However, it was shown that it loves to get under its wearer's skin and control them. It is also sadistic to the point of torturing its wearer into doing its dirty work, as shown everytime it harms Sam everytime he tries to resist its control.
Trivia[]
- The name Watch-bot comes from the film's junior novelization, while its "Spider bot" nickname comes from the novelization.
- The specific model of watch that Watch-bot transforms into is a BVLGARI Diagono X-Pro.
- While the Watch-bot's fate is left ambiguous in the film, the novelization and junior novelization had it being able to avoid the stomping and escape, only to then join Megatron and the other Decepticons on Cybertron following the truce that ended the war. In the comic book adaptation, Sam told Optimus that he was able to kill it with Epps' help.
- In the film, Dylan Gould's bodyguards wear wristwatches that are very similar to the Watch-bot's alternate mode. This alone is enough to make fans theorize that the Watch-bot may actually be a series of mass-produced drones instead of one individual. Of course, this isn't true because it was never shown or mentioned onscreen, but it's very terrifying when one stops to think about it.
