The Watchers are the overarching antagonists in the Drakengard franchise and are responsible for the events that have lead to Nier and Nier: Automata. When Manah is possessed, they are voiced by Daran Norris and the late Daisuke Gōri, who also voiced Heihaci Mishima in the Tekken series.

Biography

The Watchers are malevolent beings that serve God, who wants to destroy the four seals preventing them from entering and bring ruin to the world. Their goal is to destroy all of humanity due to their uncontrollable desires to commit countless sins. They are worshipped by the Empire who, under the guidance of the Cult of the Watchers, also sought to destroy the seals in their mission to release the Seeds of Resurrection upon the world.

The Watchers are responsible for brainwashing the Empire and instigating the war between the Empire and the Union. They are also known to exploit the emotional weakness of humans and bringing them under the Watchers' influence. This includes Inuart, when he wanted to have the strength to protect Furiae, as well as Manah, who wants to be loved by her mother due to her mother abusing her and who only loved Seere, her twin brother.
