History[]
Roger Stevens is the manager of the TV station KLMN. He wanted to steal money from the TV Station and fly away to South America with it. So Roger Stevens took the disguise of the Wax Phantom, a persona which was created by his former wax figure maker Mr. Grisby. Roger had fired Mr. Grisby and Grisby swore that he would be avenged, by creating the Wax Phantom with black magic. Roger knew that Grisby just said en empty threat but he used that to his advantage when he took the disguise of the Wax Phantom. Making people believe that Grisby's magic worked.
In the beginning of the episode Fred and Daphne are dancing together on the Johnny Sands Dance Game Show produced by KLMN. Johnny Sands then calls up Shaggy and Scooby on to the stage to dance. Roger Stevens stands beside the rest of the gang and says that Shaggy and Scooby's dance is original. But then the lights go out and the Wax Phantom appears on stage with a ghastly glow surrounding him. The lights go out again but quickly comes back. The stage is trashed and both Johnny Sands and Roger Stevens are gone. The gang goes to Johnny's back office and sees it completely vandalized and Johnny bound to a chair. Velma thinks it's just a publicity stunt but Johnny says it's not. He explains all about the Wax Phantom and how he has threatened the station. They all then notices that Roger Stevens is gone and they see that the safe in Johnny's office is opened and that all the money is gone. Outside the building the gang splits up with Velma, Shaggy and Scooby going to Mr. Grisby and with Fred and Daphne going to the wax museum.
Velma, Shaggy and Scooby goes to Mr. Grisbys' house and he lets them in. He tells them about how he created the Wax Phantom to get revenge on the station. They get away from the house quite frightened by Mr. Grisby and goes to the wax museum to catch up with Fred and Daphne. At the museum they eventuelly reuintes with Fred and Daphne after being chased by the Wax Phantom. Velma notices an airline ticket on the floor that goes to South America. The gang starts looking for more clues but Shaggy and Scooby runs away to a dining table with food on it. Fred, Daphne and Velma continues but falls down a trap door and land in a completely empty room, now trapped. Shaggy and Scooby gets chased and captured by the Wax Phantom. The rest of the gang finds a bag with all the money stolen from the TV station and a way out from the empty room. The Wax Phantom is attempting to turn Shaggy and Scooby into wax dummies but Daphne stops him. After being chased once again by the ruthless phantom the gang decides to trap him in wax. The plan doesn't go quite as planned but the Wax Phantom gets trapped together with Shaggy and Scooby. The police comes there and Fred rescues Shaggy and Scooby from their wax coating. Fred then unmasks the Wax Phantom who turns out to be Roger Stevens. They explain to the police that Roger Stevens stole money from the TV station and tried to frame Mr. Grisby by dressing up as the Wax Phantom, so that Mr. Grisby would be arrested while Stevens flied away to South America with all the money he embezzled. The police finally arrests Roger Stevens and the mystery is solved.
Trivia[]
- In the direct-to-video Scooby-Doo! and the Goblin King, a real monster resembling the Wax Phantom can be seen in line with the monster bar patrons.
- When the Wax Phantom appears on stage, Stevens is seen on the far right of the stage even though he should be in the Wax Phantom costume. This is probably just an animation mistake.
