Waylon Smithers is the secondary antagonist of "If Only I Had a Brain", a segment from the Simpsons episode "Treehouse of Horror II".
In this segment, he suggests Mr. Burns to fire a random employee. After Homer was chosen, he gets fired for sleeping on the job, which gives Mr. Burns the opportunity to replace him with a robot, claiming it will be the "ultimate worker". To do so, he and Mr. Burns kidnap Homer and drags him to the laboratory, where they seize his brain to use it as the robot's brain. While it seems to be successful at first, the robot doesn't really have any improvements due to Homer's usual laziness, foiling Mr. Burns and Smithers' plan to the point that the robot even crushes Burns's body, leaving him only as a head that gets stitched to Homer's body.
Biography[]
At Springfield Nuclear Power Plant, Smithers and Mr. Burns are watching the employees through the cameras. Smithers then gives Burns the idea of randomly firing someone, with Homer Simpson being chosen. Smithers orders Homer to wake up via the radio and tells him that he is fired for sleeping on the job, making Homer confused as he asks how he was caught sleeping. Smithers replies that he was watched through the surveillance cameras.
After Homer was fired, Smithers follows Mr. Burns to his hidden laboratory, where he is introduced to the "ultimate worker", a robotic version of Homer himself, making him surprised. Mr. Burns then tells Smithers that all they need to find to make the robot functional is a human brain. Later at night, Mr. Burns and Smithers went to search for Homer, who is now a grave digger. Finding him in a hole, Mr. Burns orders Smithers to kidnap him, but the latter tells him that Homer Simpson wasn't really a model employee. Mr. Burns then stares at him with a menacing smirk, threatening to use Smithers' own brain if he doesn't comply.
They then pick up Homer and trap him inside a bag, which Smithers drags with him. However, Homer realized that he was trapped and tried to free himself. Smithers then watches Mr. Burns whack the bag with a shovel to knock Homer out again. Arriving in the laboratory, Smithers slices off the top part of Homer's head, allowing Mr. Burns to take the brain out of him. He is then told to bring Burns an ice cream scoop, but he is reluctant, causing Mr. Burns to yell at him, saying that it is for brain surgery.
After Homer's brain is pulled out and put inside the robot, Mr. Burns and Smithers then take a smalle break and share a pizza with each other. Mr. Burns then orders Smithers to pull the lever down to activate the robot with electricity, successfully making it come to life. However, it quickly backfired as due to Homer's obsession with donuts and laziness, the robot failed to prove itself as the "perfect creation" that Mr. Burns had made. Mr. Burns then orders Smithers to put the robot in the toilet, but the latter suggests him to return the brain to Homer first. While Mr. Burns initially refuses, Smithers looks at him in sadness, causing him to finally take Smithers' advice.
Once the brain is returned to Homer, Smithers tells Burns that Homer is alive again. However, Mr. Burns kicks the robot, causing it to fall down. Despite Smithers telling him to run, the robot crushes Mr. Burns' body, severely breaking all of his bones and vital organs. Mr. Burns then tells Smithers that he is going to die, but the latter doesn't know what to do about it, until Mr. Burns orders him to go to his office and find a tool, cutting his head off and attaching it to Homer's body, even becoming a reality much to his horror.
