The Abin Qard, or Weaponers of Qard are the main antagonists of the Absolute Green Lantern comic book series of DC's Absolute Universe.
They are adept of the Qard, the lowest level of light within the light spectrum. Qard means "chaotic action" and is represented by the dark light. Though no level of light is evil per se, the Weaponers of Qard wish to harness chaotic power form Qard without constraints and subjugate the other levels of light, putting them in conflict with adepts of other light levels, mainly Oans.
Biography[]
The formation of the Weaponers or Qard is unknown, but they and their actions are known enough in the universe that Abin Sur considers it a need to recruit people to form an army to combat them. Mogo, their main representative, decides to move towards Earth shortly after Abin Sur makes his presence known in Evergree, Nevada, and starts choosing people for different levels of light.
As John Stewart explains, their philosphy is that of channeling the most power they can from Qard, the lowest level of light, which they see as the biggest, and overthrow Oans and their thoughts of balance, who they see as incorret. When Hal Jordan is infected with the Black Hand, full of energy from the Qard level of light, he is immediatelly riddled with Mogo's voice, that tries to manipulate him and convince him to snap, showing the Weaponers are a manipulative group that has no problem traumaztizing and forcing others onto their ideology.
Membership[]
- Mogo the Living Planet: A planet sized entity that seems to be the leader or current member of the Abin Qard, and is coming towards Earth to take it over. Its soon-to-happen arrival is one of the main plot points of the story and the main threat Jo and her allies must prepare for.
- Hal Jordan: When consumed by Qard energy through the Black Hand, as well as Mogo's influence, Hal Jordan became an unwilling member of the forces of Qard, letting chaotic actions take over his thoughts and fighting Jo Mullein. However, he never really learns of the Weaponers' existence until before Jo cures him of Qard's corruption.
- Kilowog: One of the Black Stars and an experienced fighter, he is a butcher among the Abin Qard, and is introduced being deployed to slaughter the Abin Surs of a planet attacked by the weaponers.
Trivia[]
- The Absolute Universe's interation of the Weaponers of Qward is a combination of them and the Black Lantern Corps, as in a organization that is enemy of the Green Lantern and their allies and that mainly draws powers from the black light of the spectrum. However, unlike the Black Lanterns, Qard has no relation to death, but rather to chaos.
