“ | The Bear Family's been a thorn in my side long enough! | „ |
~ Weasel McGreed when Raffish Ralph refuses to aid him in killing the Bear Family. |
Weasel McGreed is the main antagonist of the 1985 Berenstain Bears cartoon as well as some of the books. He is the ruler of the underground Weaselworld whose goal is to take over Bear Country "Lock, Stock, and Honeypot". As part of his evil plans, he often enlists the aid of Raffish Ralph. He is also the arch-nemesis of the entire Bear Country (mainly the Bear Family).
He was voiced by Frank Welker, who also voiced Raffish Ralph from the same cartoon.
Personality[]
Weasel McGreed, as his name indicates, is very greedy and lusts for power as his schemes usually involve taking over Bear Country. He is also shown to have anger issues as he will often lose his temper and begin ranting and abusing his fellow weasels and Raffish Ralph at even the slightest failure or provocation. He does not seem to care for Raffish Ralph and sees him as a tool for his goals, and he's much more evil and cruel than Raffish Ralph as he was willing to kill the Bear Family in "The Hot Air Election", something which Raffish Ralph refused to go along with, deeming it as too evil, even for him.
Villainous Acts[]
- In "The Trojan Pumpkin", he pays Raffish Ralph to give Papa Bear a magic pumpkin seed that grows into a giant pumpkin. He and his fellow weasels then enter the pumpkin and turn it into a giant battle fortress with cannons which they will use to take over bear country. Brother and Sister Bear use a stick as a wedge to to tilt the pumpkin causing it to roll down a valley and crash, destroying the weasel's battle fortress.
- In "The Fly Away Pizza", After being informed by Raffish Ralph about a pizza-twirling contest that Papa Bear has entered, he creates a magic pizza powder and orders Raffish Ralph give it to Papa Bear. When the pizza-twirling contest begins, Papa Bear puts some of the powder on his pizza dough which causes the dough to grow into a massive storm that begins destroying the fair and causing all the bears to panic and run away. When the Bear family discovers the pizza storm is being radio-controlled, Brother Bear grabs a remote and uses it to send the pizza back to Raffish Ralph and the weasels.
- In "Kong for a Day", he places an advertisement in The Swindler's News looking for odd and unusual acts for his show-biz. Raffish Ralph reads his advertisement and tells him about Bigpaw. When they discover that Bigpaw wants to sing, they both pose as talent managers and offer Bigpaw a job as a singer, which turns out to be a trap so the weasels can capture and exhibit him. However, several scissorbirds release him, who then retaliates by throwing Weasel McGreed and Raffish Ralph into a swamp.
- In "The Wicked Weasel Spell", he summons Raffish Ralph to help him hypnotize Bigpaw into thinking the Bears are mosquitoes to attack Bear Country. Bigpaw is hypnotized and attacks the cubs until Brother Bear starts singing his song, breaking the spell. Bigpaw then roars at Weasel McGreed and Raffish Ralph who run away.
- In "Save the Bees", he creates a flower that eats bees to get rid of all the bees and honey in Bear Country. He forcibly summons Raffish Ralph and has him manipulate Mama Bear into growing and distributing the flowers. Weasel's scheme begins to succeed as all of the bees are eaten by the flowers, but his plan is foiled when Brother and Sister Bear discover that the flowers are sensitive to a skunk's spray and they, along with Actual Factual and Mr. Skunk, use Factual's crop duster to destroy all the flowers.
- In "The Bigpaw Problem", he and his weasels discover the Great Grizzly fault and trigger it, causing a massive earthquake that threatens to rip Bear Country apart. His plan is foiled when Bigpaw uses his super strength to stop the earthquake and save Bear Country, and the weasels are sent flying out of the cave wondering what just happened.
- In "The Great Grizzly Comet", he and some of his weasels disguise themselves as aliens to warn Papa Bear and the cubs that Grizzly's comet will hit and destroy Bear Country. Papa Bear warns everyone about the disaster causing all of Bear Country to panic and Raffish Ralph suggests they all sell their property to the weasels. When Actual Factual reveals that there's no danger from Grizzly's comet, Weasel McGreed warns the citizens of Bear Country once more, causing mass panic, but Brother Bear and Sister Bear discover that the little green bears were actually weasels in disguise and the fake warning was one of their schemes to get the bears to sell their property and leave, Bigpaw shows up and attacks them and Raffish Ralph, exposing their scheme.
- In "The Raid on Fort Grizzly", he orders Raffish Ralph to tour Fort Grizzly. When the tour is over, Raffish Ralph sends him a map and the weasels begin their raid on Fort Grizzly. Brother Bear and Sister Bear, who had been following Raffish Ralph, pose as Raffish Ralph and ask him to give them a copy of the map, which he falls for. The Bear Family discovers that the weasels are digging tunnels in every direction to try to steal all of the golden honey in the fort, but their plan is ruined when an army of porcupines dig underground and attack the weasels, causing them to run away in panic. They are last seen chasing after Raffish Ralph, believing he betrayed them.
- In "The Hot Air Election", he approaches Raffish Ralph, who has become Papa Bear's campaign manager and is setting up a hot air balloon for him and his family to fly all over Bear Country giving his speech, and suggests that he sabotage their hot air balloon so that the Bear family will fall from a great height. Raffish Ralph actually refuses to do this, calling his plan "too evil" even for him. Weasel McGreed then pretends to change his mind and lies about not going through with this before sending one of his weasels to sabotage the balloon. His plan fails when Papa Bear talks into the balloon, giving it enough air to save him and his family.
- In "Save the Farm", instead of trying to take over Bear Country lock, stock, and honeypot, he decides to take over Bear Country piece by piece. He orders his weasels to forcibly summon Raffish Ralph to help him buy an above-ground headquarters. After trying the kumquats Raffish Ralph bought which he liked, he decides to buy Farmer Ben's farm. After Farmer Ben refuses to sell his farm, he buys the Windmill next to his farm so he can use it to blow corn blight and other dust, infecting all of Farmer Ben's crops. When Farmer Ben and the cubs discover this, they shut down the windmill by pulling an emergency stop lever thus putting an end to Weasel McGreed's final scheme. Raffish Ralph and Weasel McGreed are last seen being chased by Farmer Ben who is throwing fruit at them after the former attempted to buy some fruit one last time.

Trivia[]
- Given how he started an Earthquake which would have destroyed Bear Country and attempted to kill an entire family (including two children), Weasel McGreed is perhaps the darkest villain of the ''Berenstain Bears'' franchise.
- Like Raffish Ralph, Weasel McGreed does not appear in the 2003 series, either due to being in a different continuity or to lighten the story.
- It is unknown what had happened to Weasel McGreed and Raffish Ralph after the episode "Save the Farm". It's possible they got kicked out of Bear Country or they got arrested offscreen and were sent to prison.
- "The Bigpaw Problem" and "The Hot Air Election" are the only episodes from the 1985 series where Weasel McGreed isn't assisted by Raffish Ralph as he wasn't needed in the former episode and he refused to help in the latter.
- In both episodes, Weasel McGreed's schemes end up ruining Raffish Ralph's schemes. In "The Bigpaw Problem", Raffish Ralph was about to succeed in having Bigpaw kicked out of Bear Country until Weasel McGreed created the earthquake that allowed Bigpaw to save Bear Country and be allowed to stay. In "The Hot Air Election", Papa Bear wouldn't have realized he was full of hot air if Weasel McGreed hadn't sabotaged his hot air balloon, and once Papa Bear saves himself and his family, he surrenders his campaign and throws his support to Teacher Jane, ruining Raffish Ralph's plan of getting her removed from office.
