~ Weez Weezel
Judge Weezel presiding!
~ Weez Weezel, after Zebub appoints him to be his judge.

Weez Weezel is B.L. Zebub's weasel assistant and the secondary antagonist of Nelvana's 1978 animated special The Devil and Daniel Mouse. He was voiced by Martin Lavut.

Biography[]

Weez was first seen popping out of the ground after Zebub first appears. When Zebub gets Jan Mouse to sign a contract in her blood, he makes Weez her manager.

At Jan's request, Weez conjures up a band for her, consisting of a beaver on drums named Boom Boom Beaver, a rabbit named Rabbit Delight and a praying mantis on guitars named Pray Mantis. The band takes the name "Funky Jan and the Animal Kingdom" and they quickly become major recording stars, constantly taking up several of the top positions in the hit parade.

Later, when Jan's boyfriend Dan tries to see her, Weez rudely tells him to leave twice without letting them see each other, and that Jan is being interviewed for Rolling Moss magazine and cannot be interrupted. During the interview, Jan unconvincingly says that being a star is great and confesses to being lonely. She thinks that she sees Dan walking away, but Weez tells her that there was "nobody important" at the door.

Weez informs Jan that she has been chosen to headline a concert featuring all the most popular and successful musicians and that she is now "at the top". She is introduced at the start of her set as "the superstar of super-bands of all super-time". Suddenly as Jan's concert ends, Zebub comes back to take her to Hell. As a chase ensues over land and water, Weez watches with enjoyment and cheers his boss on.

Later, Jan reunites with Dan, but then both Zebub and Weez reappear. Dan proposes a trial to determine Jan's fate. The Devil agrees to the trial but on three conditions; he supplies the judge, he supplies the jury and if Dan loses the trial, he takes the souls of both Jan and Dan. Weez acts as the judge and other animals gather in the forest to watch the trial as Dan futilely tries to save Jan's soul. Finally, Dan tries one more time in a song, in which Weez, caught up in the moment by its touching effect, takes part in as he declares both Jan and Dan free, much to Zebub's anger. After Zebub goes back to Hell without Jan, Weez having forgot his judge wig comes back up and grabs it before giving a polite shrug and going back down.

Trivia[]

  • Weez Weezel makes a very brief cameo appearance in Nelvana's later 1983 production Rock & Rule as one of the mortal dance members during a song sequence, albeit reappearing three times in the same sequence due to reused animation.
