Villain Overview

YEAAAAAGH!
~ The werewolf's ear-splitting roar.

The entity known only as the Werewolf is the main enemy and antagonist in the Slender-inspired indie horror game Survivers (misspelled that way on accident) and its remake Survivors: Reboot.

The game follows four engineers (four regular guys in the remake) trapped in a forest being hunted down by a large bloodthirsty carnivore.

Biography[]

MEAT MEAT MEAT
~ One of the game's notes put by a previous survivor, possibly the werewolf.

Very little is known about the creature. It could be gathered from some of the notes that the current werewolf is nothing but a victim trapped in the forest that was infected and cursed by a wolf or werewolf, or perhaps even a vampire. It's also possible it may have been a victim from the airplane crashed in the game, who may have lost their mind and resorted to cannibalism, turning into a monster, similar to a wendigo.

It could even be a skin-walker, a type of witch from native American legends with glowing eyes described to be naked except for some animal skin (which could just be a mask), often seen more as a mutated version of the animal. They also steal the skin of people, which lines up with one of the notes that say the werewolf is "plucking" one of its victims.

In the remake, one of the notes state that it was a man before.

Appearance[]

SurviversWerewolfDark

The werewolf behind a tree.

Following many other depictions of werewolves, this one is very muscular, towers over people and has very dark fur, but unlike other werewolves, most of its body lacks skin and has exposed muscles, though this is hard to see at times since the darkness tends to obscure most of its body, making it out to be completely black and perfectly camouflaged with the dark forest it resides in.

Most strikingly, it has red glowing eyes, which are visible from afar. Also quite peculiar, the hands are more humanlike than any other body part, relatively normal aside from the long black fingernails. It also seems to have extremely pale (almost white) skin.

Survivors Reboot Werewolf eyes

The werewolf's eyes in the remake.

In the remake, the werewolf retains his menacing red eyes but loses his skinless body in favour of a more hairy one, albeit less hairy like the body of a wolf and closer to that of a very hairy man. The werewolf is also slightly bigger and stands and moves in a more ape-like manner. When seen from up close, the eyes have also been changed from being entirely empty to having slit-shaped pupils, like a cat.

Personality[]

It plucks you Alesh.
~ One of the game's notes.
SurviversWolfDarkness

The werewolf, almost completely hidden in the dark.

Not much is shown from the werewolf, but it's quite murderous for reasons beyond predatory or territorial instincts, and may be responsible for an entire airplane crashing on its forest since the remains of one are there, though this could also be just an accident. A tank can also be found in the forest, perhaps implying a larger conflict exploded due to the creature.

PeLUG9

The werewolf stalking the protagonists in the remake.

One personality trait that is quite clear based on notes and how it behaves is that it can be sadistically playful, sometimes appearing in the distance far enough for only its eyes to be seen, and this isn't something it always does since it can also simply appear out of nowhere in front of his victims, screaming in their faces.

Powers and Abilities[]

SurviversWerewolfMist

The werewolf's red mist.

The werewolf has the ability to teleport anywhere within its forest, and can summon a red mist along with it once a player looks at him. Alongside the ear-splitting scream, the red mist can also make a victim lose track of where they were going & kill the players.

It likes blood.
~ One of the game's notes.

The fact that it likes blood and has these supernatural powers might imply it's actually a vampiric or (given its appearance) demonic werewolf, or as hypothesized before, a wendigo or a skinwalker.

Trivia[]

  • The werewolf's roar is a stock sound effect used in a plethora of indie horror games.
  • The game's creator is unknown, though what is known is that the game originates from Chile, which might explain the misspelled title "Survivers", assuming the creator of the game doesn't know too much English.
  • As expected given the creature's nature and abilities as well as the game itself, this werewolf is inspired by Slender Man.
  • The game's file is titled "SlenderOnline", referencing the fact that it theoretically was an attempt to recreate Slender: The Eight Pages but with the addition of multiplayer to see if it would still work as a scary game.
