Werewolves are major antagonists in the Underworld series. It is important to note that the term werewolf in later generations is used interchangeably with Lycans, but the two are not the same. Werewolves are the original species created by the first werewolf, William Corvinus.
Unlike the second generation, the lycans, werewolves once turned can never return to their humanity and are rendered feral, nigh mindless beasts. Their mutation, similar to William though to a lesser extent, is so explosively infectious that transmission of the virus was almost guaranteed, leading to frequent outbreaks in ancient times. While they could never again become human until death (though William's direct victims could not), over generations werewolves were able to retain a sense of knowledge and were able to plan and coordinate with each other.
Some time after Lucian's resounding first victory against the Vampires at the end of Rise of the Lycans, Viktor would order the complete and utter eradication of the species.
History[]
Over a thousand years ago, the first immortal was born; Alexander Corvinus. Alexander had three sons, twins Marcus and William, and an unknown third son. Marcus would be bitten by a bat and become the first Vampire, while William was bitten by a wolf and became the first werewolf. Unlike Marcus who was able to continue on his life without any issue, William was rendered a completely feral monster. Everywhere William went death and destruction followed, and to make matters worse, everyone attacked by him, even those killed, would go onto become werewolves themselves and continue the cycle. Their infection spread like wildfire, leaving devastation across the country.
Abilities[]
Werewolves have inhuman levels of physical attributes, including strength and durability. They are much stronger than humans (the only human ever seeing to physically overpower one being Raze) and can take an incredible amount of punishment before being slain. Because of this, decapitation tends to work best, that or severe bodily trauma because werewolves can generally power through anything less. With their senses also heightened to inhuman levels, werewolves are actually superior in almost every way to their vampiric cousins, their only major drawback being their crazed and feral minds. Werewolves, especially those directly turned by William are utterly mindless monsters with no mental capacity save the need to attack and feed on everything in sight. While generations later they would be able to keep some degree of intelligence after being turned, able to coordinate their attacks together and communicate like a proper pack, they were still for all intents and purposes just beasts, never again able to retake or show their humanity.
