Wetton is the main antagonist in the anime only Rainbow Mist arc of One Piece. He is the leader of the Wetton Pirates, and later the mayor or Ruluka village after attempting to sack it and losing his ship.
Biography[]
Wetton attempted to sack Ruluka Village 50 years prior to the story, ordering his men to burn down the village and kill anyone who tries to stop them. Upon noticing a group of children known as the Pumpkin Pirates, Wetton attempts to murder them, but one of them, Henzo, knocks him off his ship as the boat vanishes into the mysterious Rainbow Mist, which prevents them or Wetton’s raiding captain Ian, who they captured, from aging. Wetton, stranded, becomes mayor of Ruluka through either force or rigging the election, and becomes a tyrant, having them taxed unfairly or be sent to hard labor camps to build the Rainbow Tower, which he plans on knocking over and entering the Rainbow Mist to rob the ship graveyard of all the treasure it has gotten over the years, making Henzo design it. Henzo wants to see his friends again and agrees to Wetton’s plan. Wetton also has a son, Flip, and a grandson, Lake, around this time.
Upon the arrival of the Straw Hat Pirates, Lake attempts to tax them for docking while Luffy enters the Rainbow Mist. Wetton then has the tower knocked over and enters the mist with his fire power suit, and Luffy defeats him before calling him out on his laziness. Enraged, Wetton destroys the tower to trap them inside the mist, even though his crew, Flip, or Lake haven’t escaped yet. The Pumpkin Pirates allow them to escape while getting trapped in mist, but are somehow sent back in time when they entered the mist but on a different island. They become marines and arrive to arrest Wetton, who futilely tries to attack them.
Appearance[]
Wetton is a elderly, almost ape like man, who has orange hair, a purple uniform, a extravagant coat, and a red cane with the face of a bull.
When he was younger, he was far more fit, and went shirtless and wore a simpler cape. He also has more hair, a gold nostril ring, and his chest was covered with tattoos.
Personality[]
Wetton is extremely greedy, taxing the citizens for all they’re worth and sending them to build a tower if they don’t pay up, which he plans on using to access a ship graveyard and become rich. He also is extremely selfish and cowardly, showing no care once his raiding captain Ian goes missing, and even tries to leave his entire crew, including his own family, to die after Luffy criticizes him.
Powers and Abilities[]
Wetton was quite muscular around the time he went to Ruluka Village but in the present day is a weak old man. However he uses a suit that has two flamethrowers, which he uses in connection with his son who throws nets at his targets.
Trivia[]
- While Wetton has a son or grandson, it’s unclear if he took a wife or not, or if he’s divorced or a widower in the present day.
