The Imperial Royal Guard, also known as the Weyland Commandos, are supporting antagonists in the 2021 Disney+ animated Star Wars web series Star Wars: The Bad Batch. They are a unit of elite Clone Commandos tasked with providing security for the Advanced Science Division and its assets on the Weyland facility on Mount Tantiss.
Description[]
The Weyland Commandos are elite clone troopers that serve the Advanced Science Division. They act as the security force of the Weyland facility, the highly classified base of the Imperial Cloning Program. The Commandos also act as bodyguards and enforcers for the Division's high ranking members such as Doctor Royce Hemlock. They were also responsible for protecting the Division's classified assets such as the cloned Zillo Beast. By 18 BBY, the Commandos were led by Commander Scorch.
The Weyland Commandos wore the Katarn-class Commando Armor used by the Clone Commandos of the Galactic Republic. Unlike a standard Clone Commando, the Weyland Commandos sported grey markings on their armor and are signified by a unique insignia on their right shoulder. Their primary weapons include DC-15A blaster carbines and DC-17m Interchangeable Weapon Systems.
History[]
The Weyland Commandos first appear escorting Kaminoan scientist Nala Se to the Weyland facility in 19 BBY shortly after the destruction of Tipoca City. A year later in 18 BBY, the Commandos escort the Advanced Science Division's chief scientist Royce Hemlock to the facility.
When a cloned juvenile Zillo Beast escapes its captivity onboard a transport, it killed the commandos guarding it and even eats a few. Another squad of commandos led by Captain Scorch were then dispatched to the planet Silla to recapture the Beast and arrest any villagers who witnessed its rampage.
Weyland commandos were later seen providing security as dissident clone troopers are taken from the Imperial installation on Balmorra to the Weyland facility. On one transport expedition, the transport is ambushed by members of Captain Rex's resistance network. The commandos fail to stop rogue clone trooper Echo and his team and were unable to completely erase the transport's data banks. Echo is later able to decrypt the data with the help of his squadmate Tech.
After Cid tipped off the location of the Clone Force 99 to the Empire, a unit of Weyland Commandos are dispatched to Ord Mantell to capture the rogue clones and their ward Omega. The commandos ambush Cid's parlor, take the rogue clone Wrecker hostage, and then forced the leader Hunter to surrender.
As they escort the captured Clones outside, the commandos are ambushed by Omega. Hemlock tries to negotiate with Omega and distracts her long enough for Scorch to incapacitate her. Although Hunter and Wrecker are able to escape with the help of Echo and AZ-3, Hemlock and the Weyland commandos successfully bring Omega to Weyland which was their goal from the start.
