The Whisperers are one of the three main antagonists (alongside The Woodbury Army and The Saviors) of AMC'S The Walking Dead television franchise.

They are a cult of mysterious survivors who use skin from the undead to disguise as them in order to stay safe. Their leader goes by the name of Alpha, with the second in command going by Beta, who briefly led them after the death of Alpha. The Whisperers act as the main antagonists of season 9 and season 10.

The Whisperers are a group of over a hundred individuals who have adopted the ideology that, following the fall of society, humanity is meant to return to its most animalistic roots, living nomadically in the wild, surviving predominantly off of the land, and following a societal hierarchy similar to that of wolves, with an "Alpha" as their one true pack leader. As such, The Whisperers are also fiercely territorial and will kill anyone who treads into any land they see as their own, and view any form of civilized society as a plague that needs to be erased for the good of the natural order. The Whisperers operate under a strictly primitivist mindset, opting to embrace their primal sides by rarely ever using any weapons aside from knives and bows (the "Alpha", however, is allowed to carry a simple sawed-off shotgun as a show of authority), rejecting the use of formal medical practices and other advanced technologies, and entering buildings and complex structures only when it is needed to achieve their goals.

Through a process of skinning killed walkers and possibly other dead bodies and curing the 'leather' in order to prevent contamination, Whisperers craft and don full-head masks that allow them to blend into herds and guide them like sheep for strategic or defensive benefits.
