White Canary is a supporting antagonist in the DC Universe's Birds of Prey comics.
The character was reintroduced in the Arrowverse franchise as Sara Lance, the anti-hero sister of Black Canary.

"White Canary" was born in the Shaanxi Province to the martial artist Si Fu Huang. Her mother passed away during her birth, and her father was the master of The Twelve brothers in Silk; twelve legendary fightets, all brothers. Since Huang always killed his daughters and trained his sons, the girl was condemned to death. However, a lightning struck nearby on the day of her birth and killed his midwife. So Huang spared her, believing that something powerful wanted her to live.
She was trained in combat since childhood, but separate from her brothers. Her brothers had never failed a mission and had never been defeated, until they met Black Canary. The brothers found that they could bear their shame. However, White Canary hunted them down and beat each one of them to death to save her father's honor.

The girl later went to Gotham City under the identity of White Canary, to exact revenge on Dinah Laurel Lance/Black Canary. She kidnapped her adoptive daughter Sin and held her in Bangkok, later framing Black Canary for the death of a kidnapper in Iceland to blackmail her by revealing her secret identity and threatening to kill other members of the Birds of Prey for each hour that passed, with the help of Penguin, Savant, Creote, and Lady Shiva.
Other Versions[]
An heroic version of White Canary appears in the Ame-Comi Girls comic book series. This version is a member of the "Justice League" from Las Vegas who possesses the meta-ability known as the "Canary Cry".
On Earth-3 there is a Black Canary's evil counterpart known as White Cat. This version is a member of the Crime Syndicate.
A similar character later appears in The New 52's Black Canary title. This version is one half of the demonic being known as Ravanahatha, who disguised herself as Black Canary's aunt Rena to trick her.
Powers and Abilities[]
- Sonic scream: In the Ame-Comi Girls universe, White Canary's metagene gives her the ability to emit high-frequency sound waves through her scream, which is powerful enough to shatter glass, break thick concrete, and launch a full-grown human and other heavy objects back several feet.
- Martial arts: White Canary is an extremely skilled and formidable hand-to-hand combatant and martial artist, having trained in martial arts by the martial artist Si Fu Huang to become a warrior of the Twelve brothers in Silk, making her one of the most powerful and best fighters on the DCU. She employs a mixed martial arts style that derives of various elements.
Other Media[]
An original incarnation of White Canary named Sara Lance (portrayed by Caity Lotz) appears in the Arrowverse media, first appearing as a supporting character in Arrow and later as a protagonist in DC's Legends of Tomorrow. This version is the sister of Laurel Lance and a former member of the League of Assassins. Sara originally used the alias "Canary" (Ta-er al-Sahf) as a vigilante in Star City, until she was killed by Thea Queen at Malcolm Merlyn's behest in season 3. In season 4, she was resurrected without her soul in a Lazarus Pit. The Pit's effects caused her to have a blood lust that can only be quenched by killing Thea. However, John Constantine performed a spell to return her soul to her body.
Some time later, she was recruited by Rip Hunter along with other vigilantes and criminals to join the Legends and stop Vandal Savage from taking over the world in 2166. In season 2, she became the Legends' new leader and a began a relationship with the human clone Ava Sharp. Evil versions of the character like Robot Sara and Doomworld Sara also appeared in the show.
She was originally played by Jacqueline MacInnes Wood in the Arrow pilot episode.
Sara Lance/White Canary appears as a "premier skin" for Black Canary in the mobile version of Injustice 2. Sara also appears in Lego Batman 3 under "The Canary" persona.
