The White Supremacists, originally intended to be the Community Carers, are major antagonists in seasons five and six of the Netflix series Orange is the New Black.
They were part of a a white power movement inadvertently started by Piper Chapman who sought to voice concerns on resource strain following an increase in the prison's inmate population.
The main spearheads of the supremacist movement were Kasey Sankey, Brandy Epps, Helen Van Maele and Jennifer Digori.
Biography[]
Background[]
When PolyCon, a for-profit prison corporation, takes over management for Litchfield Penitentiary, they flood the prison with new inmates from Maximum Security. This results in increased tension between the inmates who are already segregated by race. Some of the inmates hold white supremacist (and some Nazi) ideologies.
Orange is the New Black[]
When Piper Chapman decides to advocate the inmates' concerns over the sudden increase in prison population, she hosts a brainstorming session with those who have similar concerns and create a team to maintain harmony in light of building racial tensions. Piper then realises that the attendees are predominately white supremacists who swing the intention of the session to become a white power group.
Uncertain what to do and careful to avoid enemies, Piper does nothing to stop this and inadvertently becomes a key figure in the movement. As this progresses, some of the supremacists begin targeting some of the black and South American inmates. Piper is found to be the leader of the movement and is branded with a swastika.
The three main supremacists take matters into their own hands and continue to target the inmates which results in increasing racial tension. During the riot after Poussey's death, they mock the girls who were friends with Poussey. During the riot, tensions begin to subside and the supremacists seem to harmonise with the inmates, but this is short-lived.
The supremacists are then moved to FDC Cleveland after the riot. Kasey Sankey appears to learn from her ignorance, and begins to find herself attracted to Asian inmate Brook Soso.
