Whitman Van Ness is the main antagonist of the Supernatural series Season 7 episode "Of Grave Importance".
He was a man who died alone and became a ghost in his home. He was responsible for murdering dozens of people who worked in his manor house, alongside his wife, and framing Dexter for his crimes. After death, Whitman trapped the ghosts of his victims in his house for his own entertainment and fed on them to grow stronger.
He was portrayed by Antonio Cupo.
Personality[]
Whitman was a sadist and psychopath to the fullest. Even before he was a ghost, he killed his fiance and numerous people in his house, including several prostitutes, and blamed Dexter for his crimes. When he died, he imprisoned all of the ghosts of people he murdered in his house and let them rot for his entertainment.
Biography[]
In the 1900s, Whitman Van Ness was the heir to the Van Ness fortune, and became owner of the home. However, his life was filled with tragedy. His fiance was murdered on the night before their wedding, with his trusted grounds keeper, Dexter O'Connell, being convicted of the murder. After that, he lose the inheritance and the house, living in isolation until dying at age 40. However, we later learn that Whitman was the real killer who murdered countless people in his manor, including his bride, and framed Dexter for it before killing him. After death, Whitman became a spirit within his house, alongside the ghosts of his previous victims. However, discovering that by feeding on the other ghosts he could stay on Earth as a ghost for longer, Whitman started killing various people who wandered into his home and trapping/feeding on their spirits for power and entertainment.
In 2012, Annie Hawkins is investigating the disappearances of teenagers that center around the Van Ness House. While investigating the house, a ghost called Victoria, leaves a message via EVP on her phone. Later Annie, calls Sam and Dean suggesting they meet so she can give them Bobby's books. She returns to the house, and is killed by Whitman Van Ness, although Dexter O'Connell tries to warn her off. Whitman later berates Dexter for this. When Dexter attempts to help, Whitman strikes him and takes Dexter's soul. A few more kids enter the home and are slaughtered. Victoria responds to Annie's request for an explanation by saying that Van Ness kills visitors to the home, and each soul he imprisons there makes him stronger. When Victoria attempts to assist Annie and Bobby in speaking with Sam and Dean later on, Whitman murders her.
Sam and Dean then leave the house to burn Whitman's bones, but Whitman places a key in Sam's pocket, which allows him to travel with them. He tries to crash their car, but they manage to escape. He attacks Sam, but Dean dispels him with a salt shotgun blast which sends him back to the house. Whitman then checks where he hides his victims to see if Bobby or Annie is there. Unfortunately, Whitman catches up with them and attacks Bobby when Sam and Dean burn Whitman's bones and vanquish him.
