Whyman is the overarching antagonist of the manga/anime series Dr. Stone. It is the name given to the source that was behind the mysterious powerful radio waves and is the cause of the petrification that took place over three thousand years ago.

After the members of the Kingdom of Science were able to defeat Ibara, the Whyman attempted to petrify all of humanity through a signal.

Personality

The true nature of Whyman is currently unknown. When Senku and members of the Kingdom of Science were able to use the radio wave, the Whyman communicated to them using Morse code, "why" multiple times. While the Whyman's true personality is mysterious, they attempted to have all of humanity petrified after Senku and the Kingdom of Science defeated Ibara. This shows that they prefer for humanity to be petrified.

When Chrome, Senku, and the Kingdom of Science realizes that Whyman's recent message translates to "Do you wanna die?". Senku, Gen, and others speculate that the Whyman is warning them and that the Whyman has a will of its own.

Biography

Whyman makes their presence known when Senku, Ukyo, and the Kingdom of Science were able to make a radar and sonar, they were able to pick up a signal from an unknown source in an unknown location. The signal kept on repeating the word why multiple times. Senku speculates that this signal is coming from the being that was responsible for the petrification of humanity over three millennia ago. After some time, the signal ended leaving many to wonder what it was and where it came from.

When the Kingdom of Science managed to defeat Ibara in the Petrification Kingdom, they were about to get back into contact with other members of the Kingdom of Science on a different island. However, the signal from the Kingdom of Science was interrupted by a new signal by a being using a synthesized version of Senku's voice. The voice attempted to send a command to the petrification device the Kingdom of Science got hold of after defeating Ibara and attempted to have it petrify the entire Earth in one second. The attempt failed since the petrification weapon could not take the command from the signal.

When Senku heard Matsukaze's story about the time that dozens of petrification weapons rained from the skies over 100 years ago, Senku came to the conclusion that the Whyman is located on the Moon.

After leaving San Francisco, Senku and his group head for South America the original source of the petrification beam. It is revealed that Dr. Xeno (who was held captive) is aware of Whyman too and his location on the moon.

When the battle between Stanley Snyder's forces and the Kingdom of Science intensifies, Senku has Joel procure one of the petrification devices. Since Senku and his team are losing in their battle against Stanley's forces and had to change their initial plan to petrify Stanley and his supporters, Senku and Joel use this opportunity to allow one of the Whyman's radio signals to reach the petrification device to petrify all of humanity on Earth. The plan succeeds and the remainder of humans on Earth are petrified. Despite succeeding in petrifying humanity, Suika is eventually depetrified by the revival fluid as part of Senku's plan to revive humanity.

Seven years after the global petrification event, the Kingdm of Science speculates that the Whyman went inactive. However, they picked up another radio signal from the Moon. When Chrome points out that the Whyman's usual message is not "W-H-Y", he notice the message is in English. After deciphering the message, it is revealed that the Whyman is telling the Kingdom of Science "Do you wanna die?" in its message. Francios tries to respond back to Whyman, but the signals stops. Senku and their allies discuss the Whyman and continue to put forth their resolve to want to meet Whyman on the Moon.
