Police Maj. Gen. Wilfredo Policarpio (simply known as General Policarpio) is a supporting antagonist of the 2023 Filipino TV Series Black Rider.
He is a rogue police officer having a rank of Major General working with a criminal syndicate group known as Golden Scorpion , alongside with Senator William and Sasha Buenaventura serving their loyalty to Edgardo Magallanes. He is also the father of Paeng Policarpio, who idolized him becoming a police officer, but then turns out his archenemy due to his son’s opposition from his action about the Palangga massacre case.
He was portrayed by Gary Estrada.
Background[]
Early life[]
He is born and raised in the islands of Cebu, and eventually fathered Paeng Policarpio. For unknown reasons, he was widowed at some point, and raised Paeng as a single father. He then became close family friends with the Guerrero families. He then moved in Manila, for job transfer, and for Paeng to study and train to become a police officer.
Rise of evil and conspiracy with Golden Scorpion[]
He was then promoted to be a general, for his long time service as a police officer, thanks to Senator Williams. Unknown to the public that he has been involved with corruption and formed alliance with Edgardo Magallanes, the leader of Golden Scorpion, alongside with Senator Williams and Sasha Buenaventura in the government. As Calvin , involved in a road rage with Elias resulting into the Palangga Massacre, he protected the crimes of Calvin as requested by Edgardo by deleting a CCTV footage in Binondo, and arresting innocent civilians in Palangga. This caused a rift between his son Paeng, due to Paeng’s conscience and broken bonds with Elias causing him to be adamant in solving the truth of his case and forced to protect his father’s crime, as his respect for him.
After Calvin and his gang invaded Joan’s home for raping Joan, the fiancé of Paeng and killing almost her family in their home, Paeng now became confident of exposing the truth behind the Palangga massacre and his father’s crime for covering up the crime.
Downfall[]
As his son Paeng faces the press conference and exposes his father’s crime for protecting the Golden Scorpion’s responsibility for the Palangga massacre, he was summoned by the President of the Philippines, confronting him for ruining the name of police officers in the country. He was then relieved from his job, leaving him depressed and heavily regretful.
Days after being relieved from his position, authorities and senate came to his mansion to arrest him. Only to shot himself to the head, as his way to get out from the authorities and prevent himself confessing about the Golden Scorpions. Despite of the suicide attempt, he survived and comatose, confined after treating his gunshot wound on his head.
After his recovery upon regaining consciousness, he was discharged and was finally about to brought him to the senate for him to confess about the Palangga massacre incident. Only that Golden Scorpion goons have ambushed him causing his death for him to prevent himself speaking up about the syndicate.
Personality[]
He was once an honorable and respectful policeman showing a great dedication for his job to serve and protect civilians in the country. As a father, he also mentioned that he was a great father to Paeng, and worked hard to show his high support of Paeng, whose dream is to become a police officer.
As times goes by his principles changed as he gets promoted to higher ranks, allowing him to be obsessed with wealth, power, and privilege. His obsession of power and fortune also made him involved with the Golden Scorpion alongside with Senator William, and states that they are the ones who’s helping him open doors for power. This also made him to become egotistical individual, as seen in the series’ introduction where he argues with the vice governor and insults him saying that he have been serving his job for a long time when he was still in lower ranks.
During his arrest, instead of surrendering and confessing about the truth relating the Palangga massacre done by the Golden Scorpion, he shot himself in the head, leading him into a critical state indicating that he is also a coward individual, as he is afraid to fight the right, and running away from his problems.
