~ William |
William is a minor character in the cartoon TV show The Amazing World of Gumball. He is a student in Miss Simian's class at Elmore Junior High.
He was voiced by Rob Rackstraw in "The Agent” and Mic Graves in "The Voice”.
Appearance[]
William is an eyeball with bright white, small, bird-like wings, his only means of locomotion. His "body" consists of a green eye. When angered or using his powers, his eye will sometimes turn a glowing red and the pupil will become a slit. His iris is green otherwise.
Personality[]
William doesn't truly have any friends. Not even the rejects and Bobert talk to him, and Principal Brown even fails to remember his name as a result of being an outcast and being unable to communicate audibly. Despite all of this, he is actually a decent character for the majority of the time, showing friendliness and a desire for companionship. When someone crosses him and insults him, however, he shows a cold, calculating side to himself. This was demonstrated in "The Voice", where he stalks Gumball and Darwin, and, through careful planning, he tricks them into fighting each other. When this fails, he goes on an all-out rampage through school in an attempt to get revenge. When he realizes that it was all a misunderstanding, though, he apologizes emotionally.
However, in "The Agent", William shows his cruel and spiteful side: He steals people's possessions in order to create a body for himself. He puts Gumball and Darwin in cages and runs away, not caring about what happens to them. In the episode, he is more villainous, calculating, and expressive than usual. In general, he is frustrated and bitter due to his loneliness and constantly being ignored. He is quite short-tempered and can get angry over little things.
Biography[]
Not much is known about his family, origins, or background, but it is established that he is an outcast and a lonely student at Elmore Jr. High, as he is often perceived as creepy and cannot communicate with others conventionally.
In "The Voice," he gets angry at Gumball and Darwin for blocking him on Elmore Plus and ignoring him in general, and anonymously sends them a warning message while declaring himself their sworn enemy. As a result, the two look for the culprit before eventually turning on each other, as per William's plan, but when they make amends, William reveals himself. He chases them throughout the school and tries to attack them with telekinesis, destroying much of the school in the process. Eventually, however, he realizes that they cannot hear him speak because he doesn't have a mouth, causing him to realize that they never ignored him on purpose. He tries to apologize, but he is smacked with a tennis racket and launched out of the window.
In "The Agent," he steals various possessions, including the school PA system, Bobert's arms, toilet rolls, and Banana Bob's mustache in order to create a body for himself. Gumball and Darwin search for the culprit throughout the episode as things go missing, and eventually discover William in the sewer, who reveals himself as the thief. He traps the brothers in the sewer before leaving to frame them for stealing the items, and almost succeeds in incriminating Gumball. However, the flower that Gumball received from Bobert is revealed to contain a microphone, which incriminates William through his confession and results in his detention.
Powers and Abilities[]
- Telekinesis: In "The Voice", he has very powerful psionic abilities. With just a thought, he can psionically manipulate the physical aspects of reality with enough force to shatter concrete or cause explosions. Unfortunately, psychic powers are the only way that he can operate, as he otherwise struggles with performing basic tasks, such as lifting a paper or opening a door.
- Telepathy: In "The Spinoffs", William attempts to communicate with Tobias using his telepathic powers, making Tobias uncomfortable. He is also able to transmit his voice through the PA system in "The Agent."
- Flight: With two pairs of wings, William is able to fly, and this is the only way he can get around.
