Dr. William McBride was an esteemed psychologist at the Belle Reve Sanitarium and the main antagonist in the Season Four episode "Unsafe" of Smallville.
He was portrayed by John Pyper-Ferguson, who also played Top Dollar in The Crow: Stairway to Heaven and Tucker Shockley in Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
History
After Alicia Baker's homicidal outbreak and her subsequent institutionalization, Dr. McBride personally oversaw her treatment. During their time together, Dr. McBride had developed his own obsession with Alicia who he considered his prized patient.
Dr. McBride developed a specialized bracelet which periodically introduced trace amounts of lead into her bloodstream to nullify her powers of teleportation.
With this special bracelet that prevented her teleporting, Dr. McBride proclaimed Alicia cured and released her to her parents.
After being released, Alicia immediately went back to Clark Kent and resumed her relationship with him. On their date at the ice-skating rink, Clark and Alicia were having a great time until she spotted Doctor McBride lurking. Alicia excused herself to confront her doctor.
Dr. McBride told Alicia to break up with Clark, claiming that her obsession with him in the first place was what caused her psychotic break. He indirectly threatened to put her back in Belle Reve if she didn't stop seeing Clark.
When Clark returned from Las Vegas after marrying her under Red Kryptonite, Dr. McBride confronted him in his barn to learn about Alicia's whereabouts. McBride held Clark personally responsible for Alicia's condition claiming he ruined his "greatest achievement" and all the progress she had made.
McBride planned to frame him for stalking Alicia, kidnapping her, as well as forcing her to marry him against her will.
McBride threatens to shoot Clark and pulled a gun out to get him out of the way but Alicia teleports in front of the bullet. With Alica shot in the shoulder, falling to the ground, Dr. McBride hurried to check on her but Clark super-pushed him out of the barn. McBride survived and was sent to Belle Reve for treatment of his unhealthy obsession.
