William T. Spears (ウィリアム スピアーズ, Uiriamu Supiāzu) is a Grim Reaper who is the supervisor of the Dispatch Management Division.
William is a tall man with short, neatly-combed, black hair, and green eyes. He wears rectangle-shaped glasses, which have four decorative lines on each side of the frames. He is often dressed in a black suit, tie, black gloves, and dress shoes.
William is generally calm, apathetic, and emotionless. In regards to his job, he is uncompromising, determined, strict, and headstrong, as he follows the rules precisely, and he seems to be extremely devoted, steadfast, trustworthy, authoritative, and dependable. He does not take kindly to individuals who cause problems or create more work for him, particularly if it forces him to apologize for their actions. Nonetheless, he seems to share Ronald Knox's distaste for overtime work.
He has no qualms with inflicting injuries on others, as shown when he jumps off a roof to land on Grell Sutcliff's head and when he uses his Death Scythe to attack Sebastian on a few occasions.
William finds demons to be disgusting and grotesque creatures, and is seen calling Sebastian Michaelis a variety of names, including "devilish fiend", "leech", "hound", "vermin", and "scum". However, it is implied that he finds other demons to be even more horrible than Sebastian. Despite his hatred for demons, he is able to display an ample amount of courtesy to them if the Grim Reaper has wrongly inconvenienced them, as shown when he apologizes to Sebastian on Grell's behalf.
An interesting trait of William's is that he seems determined to do a little work as necessary, implying he is actually lazy in nature. This can be proved by his dislike of overtime, and the fact that when he was a Reaper in training, he was able to beat Grell in a fight, who had an AAA in practicals, but only had a B grade in the same subject because he knew it was the minimum needed to pass.
