William Taylor is the main antagonist of the Criminal Minds episode "Awake". He is a delusional abductor and torturer who was traumatized by the kidnapping and murder of his daughter.
Born sometime in either 1971 or 1972, not much is revealed about Taylor, other than he owned a scrap yard in Arizona and had a five-year old daughter whom he treasured. On August 17, 2015, he was driving home from his daughter's ballet recital and having worked a double shift previously, he was extremely tired. He pulled into Dry Point Creek Rest Area to nap a little, but before he fell asleep, a man knocked on his window to tell him that his tail light was out. That same man waited for him to go to sleep, kidnapped Tatiana, and murdered her some distance from the stop. When Taylor woke up and realized that she was gone, he reported the abduction to police, but they didn't find anything and his claim of the "skull tattoo man" was blown off as being a result of his sleep-deprived mind. Three months later, a search party of volunteers was arranged and they found Tatiana's remains.
The discovery of his daughter's body devastated Taylor and led to him developing PTSD. Through his mental illness, he deluded himself into believing that the body found wasn't Tatiana and that she was still out there somewhere, being held by the "skull tattoo man". As a result, he started hanging around Dry Point to look for his daughter's killer and ended up abducting a man named Steven Jackson. After subduing Jackson; he brought him back to his salvage yard where he chained him to a pipe, gave him coffee, and proceeded to torture him for Tatiana's location. Because Jackson had no idea what Taylor was talking about, he couldn't give any answers and eventually died from cardiac arrest due to being repeatedly electrocuted. Two days after dumping Jackson's body, he abducted another man named Lance Coleman by posing as a hitchhiker.

Because of the severe torture inflicted on Jackson and the abduction of Coleman, the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit are brought in by Phoenix police to help investigate.
